Importance of sport
Sport is an activity that is governed by a set overrules or customs andoften engaged in competitively.
Sports
commonly refer to activities wherethe physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primarydeterminer of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used toinclude activities such as mind sports (a common name for some gamesand board games with little to no element of chance) and motorsports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors. Sport iscommonly defined as an organized, competitive and skillful physicalactivity requiring commitment and fair play. Sports differfrom games based on levels of organization and profit (notalways monetary). Accurate records are kept and updated, while failuresand accomplishments are widely announced in sport news.

For example, "football and swimming aremy favorite sports", is more natural sounding to an American than "I enjoysport".The term is sometimes extended to encompass all competitive activities inwhich offense and defense are played, regardless of the level of physicalactivity. Both games of skill and motor sport exhibit many of thecharacteristics of physical sports, such as skill, sportsmanship, and at thehighest levels, even professional sponsorship associated with physicalsports. Air sports, billiards, bridge, chess, motorcycle racing, and powerboating are all recognized as sports by the International OlympicCommittee with their world governing bodies represented in theAssociation of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations. Sportsthat are subjectively judged are distinct from other judged activities suchas beauty pageants and bodybuilding shows because an activity is beingevaluated, rather than the physical attributes of the contestant.

Hockey is the national game of India. It hasmade India stand tall and has proved itself tothe world, in spite of being under politicalsuppression. Hockey is a team game, which isplayed by two teams of eleven players. Eitherteam tries to hit the ball with the hockey stickinto the goal, and also tries to prevent theopponent from doing so. Over the years,different player positions and tactics havebeen adapted for effective attacking and defending.The game of hockey is played widely across India. It is popular andis played by both men and women. The origins of the game can betraced back to the earliest civilizations of the world. The rulesof hockey are very similar to the rules of football exceptthat players must use sticks instead of their feet to play the ball.

Cricket is a team game which is played between two teams of elevenplayers each. It’s a bat-and-ball game. In India, cricket is by far the mostpopular sport and almost practiced like a religion. The cricket field consistsof a large circular or oval-shaped grassy ground. The pitch where thebatsmen have to face the bowler is 22 yards. The objective of the game is toscore more runs than the opposing team. The team bowling first tries tobowl out the batting side, and then out score them. Batting and bowling arethus alternated. There are two forms of cricket - Test matches and one day.A 20-20 version of the game is also being played now.India has achieved tremendous success in cricket, by winning the 1983World Cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, and finishing as a runner-up in2003 World Cup under the captaincy of Sourav Gangly. Domestic cricket inIndia has major tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy and Duleeptrophy.The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the top governing body of Indian cricket which is a representative of Team India in theInternational Cricket Council (ICC). The BCCI is the union of variousstate cricket boards from all over the country.

Tennis is the game in which two opposing players (singles) or pairs of players (doubles) use tightly strung rackets to hit a ball of specified size,weight, and bounce over a net on a rectangular court. Points are awarded toa player or team whenever the opponent fails to correctly return the ballwithin the prescribed dimensions of the court. One of the distinguishingfactors, which make tennis more special among all other sports, is itssimplicity of rules. A player’s objective is to make the opponent discontinuethe rally.The All India Tennis Association (AITA) was formed in 1920 in Lahore,currently situated in New Delhi. The AITA manages the entire Indiantennis scenario.
