Top 10- Perks Of Being A Wallflower.by
Muhammad Sarmad Hafeez
Below is the list of 10 things (not in order of rank); that became my top ten reasons to admire this film.In this list I have tried my level best not to unleash any spoilers, but still few exceptions might haveslipped unnoticed.
1 /- Soundtracks:
From the beginning of this movie to its very end this movie showers some exquisitemelodies from your laptop speakers. The music used in this film is original and unique. Giving its viewera true
meaning of the expression “one of its kind.”
2/- Deserving Praise:
Let’s be honest and accept the only thing that has deteriorated more than the
standard of movies, in recent years, is the standard of awarding them awards. However, The Perks of Being a
Wallflower is different. The title has won 8 awards so far including People’s choice award for the
category: Favorite Drama Film. The film currently holds the rank # 217 in prestigious IMDB top 250movies. All of it well deserved, if not deserving more.
3/- Misfits are Fit somewhere:
This movie silently whispers in the ear of its viewer, that no matter howmisfit one could be, one can always fit in the clan of misfits. And no matter how different you are thereare people around every corner who are not so different from you.
4/- Right person for the right job:
Other than starring the magnificent Emma Watson as Sam. The castselection has really done it for this movie (with the exception of the jock). To me Logan Lerman nailedthe main lead (Charlie) as a young confused yet brilliant teenager. Ezra Miller as Patrick. Mae Whitmanas Mary Elizabeth and Erin Wilhelmi as Alice, all did a pretty decent job.
Balance between life’s soft
and harsh realities:
The movie forms a brilliant grey from the blend of black & white of reality. This movie openly talks about self harm, major depression disorder and interfamily problems etc. But also highlights the strengths of friendship, the time one enjoys as youngteenager and above all the concept of love.
6/- Relationship with teachers (not that):
Contrary to traditional classroom culture. This movie shows avery healthy relationship with teachers. Even in the case of disagreement a student advocates his/herpoint of view with due confidence. Quite literally to the exact opposite of Master-Slave paradigm wehave in Pakistani classrooms.
7/- Common Courtesy:
In spite of being a high school film, this movie highlights the long forgotten
concept of common courtesy. It gives a sincere reminder that everyone shouldn’t be as mean as possible
to all those with whom you do not get direct benefits. In this movie people cut the guy some slack if hehas lost his best friend or
a guy doesn’t breakup with a girl because she is too excit
ed about being inrelationship.
