Sr. Animal Program VeterinarianSAIC Frederick, Inc., the operations and technical supportcontractor for the National Cancer Institute-Frederick hasan excellent opportunity for a Sr. Animal ProgramVeterinarian. You will oversee animal-based researchsupport programs involving one or more species of laboratory animals maintained in multiple animal facilitiesat the NCI-Frederick. Will serve as Head of Laboratory of Animal Medicine, LASP and attending veterinarian for theNCI-Frederick animal program. Responsible for fullmanagement over issues pertaining to laboratory animalhusbandry, health and welfare. Will direct or administerveterinary medical, diagnostic, surgical and clinicaltreatment procedures to various species, includingrodents and frogs. Responsibilities also include:establishing guidelines and administering procedures toensure full compliance with all applicable regulations andstandards to maintain AAALAC accreditation of the animalcare and use program; will supervise a veterinary staff comprised of an Animal Program Veterinarian andVeterinary Associate; conducting training programs foranimal caretakers, technicians and research staff utilizingresearch animals; providing consultative services toscientific and technical personnel pertaining to theselection and use of animals, development or evaluationof animal research protocols or production facilities, andin-depth evaluation of the relationships of animal diseaseto research programs. Shares emergency on-call dutieswith other veterinarians. Serves as member of NCI AnimalCare and Use Committee.
