This Friday the kindergarten class will celebrate being in school for 100 days!There will be plenty of fun activities planned to honor this day using Math andLiteracy. Please be sure to have you child’s collection of 100 things turned in tome if you have not done so‐we are planning a great activity for their collections.Tomorrow is the evening Kindergarten Round‐up at 6:00 pm. Our new highfrequency words this week are THIS, YOU and WITH. Everyone is using thesewords in their daily writing and many students are beginning to write multiplesentences; I am so proud of their progress. The famous African AmericansBessie Coleman, an aviator, and George Washington Carver, who discoveredpeanuts, were the focus of Black History Month this week. The book, My LuckyDay, is the literature focus for our work time centers. The letter/sounds Uu isthe letter of the week. This week we are also making painted paper to use increating art. *On Monday, March 2, we will be hosting Grandparents andSpecial Friends Day in the afternoon. News from Kindergarten ‐ Teacher Dana
This week in Room 1 we are working on counting. We will count the studentsin our class and see how many noses, ears, mouths, etc we have altogether. Wewill be exploring the use of tally marks in math as well.In science we will read a National Geographic and a new book about treesduring the four seasons. We will continue to learn about and view the work ofGeorgia O’Keefe.Our new word wall words this week are one two and three, so please workwith your children on practicing writing and reading those.On Friday we will celebrate 100 days of being in school! It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Community Dinner on Friday. Itis always fun to see each other outside of the classroom setting! This week weare busy finishing up our worktime unit on Bunny Days and we will begin toexplore literacy using the story, My Lucky Day. by inviting grandparents andspecial friends (that could include you) to read with us in the afternoon,beginning at 2:00. If you have someone special who would be available, pleaseencourage them to attend. This is a wonderful time of sharing the love ofreading and getting to show off your special person! Next Thursday brings our 3rd annual auction. There will be many affordable items and is sure to be a lotof fun. I hope to see many of you there. Classroom Notes from First Grade ‐ Mrs. Pechette
In art we are taking another look at the color wheel, this time using cyan,magenta, and yellow. First we mixed the secondary colors orange, green, andviolet, then went on to mix many different colors. It was fun to name some ofour new colors like Hailey’s turtle green and Xavier’s swamp brown. We aremoving through the alphabet in handwriting, looking carefully at how eachletter is formed. Almost all of us have a correct pencil grip which helps develophand strength as we write more. When looking through last week’s homework,the handwriting has become much more confident and readable. In math whenassessed last week, many of us moved up a number as we continue to work onnumber sense. Ask your child to explain to you what their number is and howthey practice using it at centers. Classroom Notes from First Grade ‐ Mrs. Logue
Last week your child brought home their fragrant flowering bulbs and wewelcomed many interesting varieties of rock into our classroom. We aresorting, classifying and learning about their history and make up through handson activities and recordings of the information. Today is our 100th day of schooland along with the other first graders and two second grade classes, we will becelebrated the 100th day of school with gym, writing, math, and snack timeactivities. Our health focus is teeth and oral health care. In math we continuewith learning shapes’ and coins’ names and attributes. Please, whenever youare able, practice these things at home too. gathering of Special Friends and Grandparents. We willcome together at 2pm in our classroom and share books, songs, stories andmilk and cookies too! I hope all students will have a person able to come andspend time with us that day. If not please let me know and I will get themconnected with a special friend during the celebration. Classroom Notes from Second Grade ‐ Ms. Leake
We are off…to the races this week. This is a busy week. We began the weekfocusing on clouds. We made posters talking about different types of cloudsand their attributes. Then we made clouds in shaving cream and did some‘cloud writing’ with adjectives that describe them. On Tuesday, we begancelebrating the first 100 days of school. Songs, stories, and several mathactivities have been included in the plans. Today 100 students in the 1st and 2ndgrades gathered in PE to see what activities we could do 100 times. Later Mr.Lauer took a picture of the whole group. On Friday, we wrap up our celebrationby working with our Kindergarten Buddies on their official 100th day of school. Iknow that the 2nd graders enjoyed the fruit loop necklaces as much as their buddies.In writing, we are working on good leads and working on word choice todraw the reader into our stories. Students have been collecting good storyopenings and have experimented with leads that tell about a character, asetting, or conversation.Next Monday is

***Report card time is just around the corner, so we have been diligentlyworking to update our assessments to reflect the latest information.***The class has really been enjoying learning about the life of Harriet Tubmanwho is credited with rescuing more than three hundred men, women andchildren from slavery. During the Civil War, she also worked as a scout and anurse, caring for both Northerners and Southerners. Right up until the time ofher death in 1913 at the age of ninety‐three, she continued to do good workssuch as fighting for the right of women to vote and helping to create schoolsfor poor students.*** Our Spelling this week focuses on “ly, ful, er,” and “or” words. News From Ms. Davis and Ms. V ‐ 3rd Grade Rm. 16
Last Friday’s field trip to the Pittock Mansion was a blast. Thanks to Angie,Diane, Jenn, Maika and Monica for joining us. It is hard to believe it is alreadythe last week in February. The 100th day of school is this Friday! We areplanning on celebrating by doing some activities with our Buddy Class. In maththis week we have begun working on a new unit called Combining andComparing. It is a unit based on addition and subtraction. Also, we are carryingover the multiplication focus of our last unit and are spending the first 10minutes of each period working on multiplication facts 1‐5. Practicing at homewith flashcards will help your child gain fluency with his/her facts. On Monday,children began taking the State Reading Test. All children should be finished byFriday. In art, we are working a creating a still life that shows perspective. We’rehoping to have the art displayed by next week. Thanks for your ongoingsupport.

Classroom Notes from Ms. Ross Third Grade ‐ Room 17
This week a flyer will go home about our third grade field trip to the HoytArboretum. The students need to pay a $1.00 for the public transportation,which we will use on March 18th on a round trip. There will also be a request for some special chaperones to accompany us.
