PRACTICAL 4 : STUDY OF FAST E NERS
INTRODUCTION:
Threaded fasteners are hardware components with external orinternal threads.
A screw, a nut and a bolt are common threaded fastenerswhich joins a number of components together.
Screw is externally threaded – assembled into a blind threadedhole
.
Bolt is also externally threaded – inserted through holes in theparts and “screwed” into a nut on the opposite side.Nut is internally threaded – threads of a nut match those on boltsof the same diameter, pitch, and thread form The same fastener could be a bolt or a screw, depending on if anut is used. Studs are threaded at both ends.
Washers
– used with threaded fasteners to ensure tightness.Common types – (a) plain (flat) washer; (b) spring washers, todampen vibration or compensate for wear; and (c) lock washer, toresist loosening.
