AR 385–55Prevention of Motor Vehicle AccidentsThis revision--o Establishes the requirement for commanders to annully recognize vehicleoperators for outstanding driving records (para 2-5).o Broadens vehicle safety standards (para 2-8).o Provides new information on transporting hazardous materials (para 2-13).o Discusses vehicle operation in the vicinity of aircraft (para 2-20).o Requires commanders to ensure that chid restraint systems are used on Armyinstallations consistent with State or host nation laws (para 3-2).o Emphasizes off-duty safety (para 3-2).o Requires personnel to use a restraint system (para 3-2).o Provides training topics for motor vehicle accident prevention (para 3-2).o Requires all motocycle and moped drivers or passengers to wear protectiveclothing including an approved helmet at all times (app B).o Requires all personnel who drive Army motor vehicles to be given a minimum of 8hours of classroom instruction in defensive driving (app B).

Summary.
This regulation establishes pro-c edure s or c arr ying out t he Army Saety Program’s motor vehicle accident preventionprogram. It also implements DODI 6055.4and Department of Defense policy applicablet o al l A r my p e r s o n n e l i n v o l v e d i n Ar m y motor vehicle operations.
Applicability.
This regulation applies to theActive Army, the Army National Guard, andthe U.S. Army Reserve.

Thisregulation does not contain information thataffects the New Manning System.

This regulation is not subject to the require-ments of AR 11–2. It does not contain inter-nal control provisions.
Supplementation.
Supplementation of thisr e g u l a t i o n a n d es ta b l i s h me n t o f c o m m an d and local forms are prohibited without priorapproval from HQDA (DAPE–HRS), WASHDC 20310–0300.
Interim changes.
Interim changes to thisregulation are not official unless they are au-thenticated by The Adjutant General. Userswill destroy interim changes on their expira-tion dates unless sooner superseded or re-scinded.
