Total quality and internationalismQuality challenge facing industry:-
There are
3 problems
faced by the companies in today’s competitive market andthey are:-
1. Customers have been increasing their quality requirements verysharply.
i.e. Customers are demanding for a product with a good quality, and their demand for this improved quality product is increasing day by day. Thiswill gives rise to competition in market.
New technology makes product with more functions and better performance.
More functions in a product are there means there are more chances of failure of functions in product.
More functions in product makes product more complex and due to thiscomplexity in the product the individual customer finds difficult to judge thequality of products.
Customer expects from the producer such product that will provide itsfunctions satisfactorily and reliably over its expected life
Here the challenge is to meet the demand of the customers.
2. As a result of this increased customer demand for higher qualityproducts

,
present quality practices and techniques

are now or soon

 will be

outdated.
Since customer is demanding for quality product so the tools andtechniques and various practices to make our product a quality product willchange. Old techniques will be left behind and new techniques will beadopted.
For e.g. a machined part was first only inspected and checked withthe gauge or instrument for its dimensions but now various other tests aredone like temperature measurement to measure that it will actually fail atwhat temperature, physical tests to measure its properties and materialstrength, several chemical tests to see the chemical composition of materialetc.
Other improvements like adopting new inspection techniques, improving labour management relations, reducing operators defects bymaking him responsible to produce quality product etc.

Here the challenge is that- Is the industry capable of adopting newpractices, new tools and techniques? and if yes then how quickly it does itso that customer demand is satisfied.
3.Quality costs have become very high
. For those companies quality costs

may be too high if they have to maintain and improve their competitiveposition over the long run.
Companies constantly try to do something good than hiscompetitor.
While trying to provide a good quality product definitely more qualitytechniques will be implemented and so quality costs such as inspections, testing, laboratory checks, scrap, rework, customer complaints and similar other expenses will increase.
Companies aim to develop a million-dollar product and to do thisthe quality costs will be very high. These 3 problems put forward
two challenges
to the industry suffering fromcompetition .and they are1.Bring improvement in the quality of many products and improve manyquality practices and techniques. And2.While improving products and quality practices, try to reduce the overallcosts of maintaining quality.
Total quality and internationalism:-
.The quality control practices of many parts of world are observedand followed and also now instead of following the same old traditionalpractices, integration of quality practices of world as well as traditionalpractices are done so we can get better results.
For example the parts and material are now purchased from the places of world rather than same purchasing technique from local or national vendors.
Following are the three important trends which show howinternationalization improves total quality practice:
1.Growing worldwide scope of business.2.New importance of quality 3.Developing significance of quality control in government  policy.
1.
Growing worldwide scope of business .:-
Many companies are becoming worldwide in their scope andoperations.

Becoming worldwide in scope and operations means
 –
when acompany designs a product in one country, purchases its materials fromanother country, and then markets & services that product throughout theworld, then the company makes itself in each and every function right frompurchasing of materials to the selling of its product. Hence a very strong qualitysystem is formed.
Also by performing different functions in different countries andbecoming best in every function, profit achieved is much more.
Industrial activities are growing so speedily that now just oldregional method of working is not followed but now the activities are done likethe international companies do them so that scope of business becomesworldwide.
Production policy planning and manufacturing facilities are mixedand integrated on international scale.
Engineering programs were uptill now conducted at national levelbut now engineering programs in recent times are conducted by coordinatingours as well as from other continent.
Marketing and product services are given to other countries andalso taken from other countries.
Companies growing worldwide and becoming international are:-
~~
government purchase and programs especially in field of defenceequipments, aerospace and other fields
~~
electricity generating installations equipments are also becomingworldwide
2.
New importance of quality:-
Previously many stereotypes export leaders had such businesspolicy thinking that their success in international trade is just because-(1) their products were technically innovative(new) products or (2) their products werevery cheap products or (3) their products were completely unavailableproducts.
But many of recent successful work done in international trade hasnot occurred because of above reasons.
Products which are successfully sold in international trade now arenot sold because they are technically innovative or extremely cheaper or notavailable at all but they are successfully sold because they have
recognizable quality.
Products got sold because of quality and such quality which issatisfactory to customer.
The emphasis given by recent export leaders of international tradeis on quality.
Markets have become quality oriented markets i.e. if any one wantsto sell his product in international market then if its product service, spareparts etc are reliable, customer oriented, quick then the person can capturethat market which is quality oriented market.
