Strength Training Safety and Efficiency Tips 
WSY Volleyball 2007
 
Before the workout 
1. Drink a lot of water throughoutthe day, even if you are not thirsty.Staying hydrated is essential forall athletes and for your generalhealth.2. Wear comfortable clothing, thatallows for a range of motion whileexercising, especially in theshoulder area.3. To warmup, do 10-15 minutesof aerobic activity in order to getthe muscles and the centralnervous system active. Do notoverdo it! DO NOT STRETCHBEFORE OR AFTER THISROUTINE! You will only stretchbefore starting a new exercise, ina “dynamic” manner.
 
Before the workout 
4. If running or thetreadmill is part of yourwarm up, limit it to 1 mileor 10 minutes. Do not runafter the workout.Running long distancedevelops “slow twitch”fibers in your legs and willmake you less explosiveon the volleyball court.
