PRE-STORY DIALOG:
Close your eyes. What do you see? Nothing. Now open your eyes and see allthat is around you. Today in the family devotions we’ll learn the story about the creation. We’ll learnabout where the world and everything came from (originated). When strangers meet each other, they oftenask, “You are from what city?” But where did that place come from (originate)? Where did this world, where we are right now, come from (originate)? This story is the first story in the Bible and it tells how thevery beginning of our world began: our sun, the stars, the whole cosmos. Pay close attention as the storyof the creation of the world is narrated.STORY: In the beginning of everything, God created the Heavens and the earth. Now the earth wasformless. It didn’t have any shape. It was empty, and it was dark all over the surface of everything. It was just without any type of shape at all. Now the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters, and God said,“Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that there was light that was made and it was good. Then He separated the light from the darkness. You know what He called it? He called the light day, andthe darkness He called night. And there was evening and morning and that’s what He did in the first day.And then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate some water from other water.”So God made the expanse and He separated the water, putting the water under the expanse. That's how ithappened. And on the second day, God said, “Let there be separation between the waters and the expanseand everything that was being made.” And so God separated the water and everything about it, and it wasso, and God gave a name to this great expanse. He called it sky. And there was evening and the morningthe second day. And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered over in one place, and let dryground appear,” and it was so. God called the dry ground land, and He gathered the water together and Hecalled that the seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation,” youknow, seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to the variouskinds. And it was so. The land produced vegetation, the plants bore seed, and they did things according totheir kind. And the trees bore fruit with the seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And that was the evening and the morning of the third day. And God said, “Let there be lights in theexpanse sky to separate the day from the night. They will mark the seasons and the days and the years. Letthe lights of the sky give light to the earth.” And it was so. Now God made two lights; the greater light togovern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. And He also made the stars. God set them in theexpanse of the sky to provide light for the earth. They governed the day and the night, and they separatedthe light from the darkness, and God saw that it was good. And you know what? That was the evening andthe morning of the fourth day. And God said, “Let the water teem with every living creature, and let thebirds fly above the earth, across the expanse,” which He called the sky. So God created the great creaturesof the sea and every living and moving thing with the water, everything in it according to their kind, andevery winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Befruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase across the earth.”And there was evening and there was morning, and that was the fifth day. And God said, “Let the landproduce living creatures such as livestock, creatures that move across the ground, and wild animals, eachaccording to their own kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, thelivestock according to their kind, and all the creatures that move along the ground, which was another kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let’s make man in our own image, in our likeness, and letthem rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over the livestock, over all of the earth andover all of the creatures that move on the ground.” And so God created man in His own image. And in Hisown image, He made man. Now He made a man and a woman. He created them, male and female. Godblessed them and said to them, “Now be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and rule over it. Ruleover the fish of the sea, and the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves on the ground. And then God said, “I will give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth, and every treethat has fruit and seed in it, and this will be your food.” And to all the beasts of the earth, and all the birdsof the air, and all the creatures that move on the ground, everything that moved around on the earth and had
