s the book of Revelation relevanttoday? Is it possible to understand it?Can we know to whom it was written—and why? What are the meaningsof its mysterious symbols? The book has perplexed readers foralmost 2,000 years. Over the centuriesit has been one of the world’s mostmisunderstood and misinterpretedbooks. Yet it need not be so.The fundamental message of thebook of Revelation is simple. It prom-ises that God will institute universalpeace, prosperity and cooperation overall the earth immediately after thereturn of Jesus Christ. It reveals howthis wonderful new world will beestablished and why it will never bedestroyed or superseded by any otherway of life or social order.Revelation, also called the Apoca-lypse,also describes an incrediblydeceptive alliance of internationallypowerful political and religious entitiesattempting to prevent Jesus’reign fromever being established. Their opposition toHim and His saints will result in a time of worldwide turmoil and suffering unlikeanything the world has ever seen. The terrifying weapons developed andmanufactured using modern technologyare an indication that the terrible time of trouble may be much nearer than we mightthink. Nations have already stockpiledmore than enough weapons to annihilateall human life from the face of the earth.Rogue nations increasingly gain the abilityto produce and use horrifying weapons of mass destruction.Even more frightful are terroristgroups, unable to attain their goals byconventional arms or diplomacy, thatnow have access to such deadly weapons.Respected international-security adviserswarn that the danger of nuclear weaponsbeing used by terrorist nations or groupsgrows ever higher. Nuclear weaponsare only one of several means of massdestruction available to amoral terroristsbent on achieving their ends by anymeans, including mass carnage. The book of Revelation presentsus with good news and bad newsabout the future. It gives us both of those aspects of the picture. On theone hand it describes the terrifyingtools of destruction our advancedtechnology will produce—and adeceived humanity will use—at theend of this age. But it also revealshow the living God,the Creator of the universe, will intervene to preventthe annihilation of humankind. Itreveals the wonderful time of peaceand a transformed world that willfollow those horrible days. You need to understand God’sdescription of what lies ahead—andwhat it means to you. You need tounderstand how you can be a part of the
good news
He reveals about the future.Once you grasp the message of Revela-tion,you too will see that it contains themost remarkable message of hope everwritten. Its fundamental message is plainand its conclusion certain.
The Book of Revelation:
Is It Relevant Today?
Where is mankind’s race to develop ever-more-destructiveweapons
taking us? The book of Revelation describes how wecollectively will ultimately reap what we have sown, bringing onourselves unimaginable human suffering before God intervenes.
Many people believe the book of Revelation
is all about bad news. Although it reveals where our actions and decisions will take us, it also shows how mankind will finally experience a world of peace.
