 INTRODUCTIONThe age we live in has been called the mechanical age. This isunderstandable when we realize that nearly everything we use in our present dayliving is, more or less, machine made. The age, therefore, being mechanical, needsmen with mechanical knowledge - knowledge of tools (handtools and measuring tools),pipefitting procedures, procedures for welding and cutting equipment, brazing, andsoldering.Each tool can be traced to a basic named tool that has, in many cases, beenin use for thousands of years. As time progressed, the types of tools andequipment changed to a more complicated and mechanical mode.This subcourse will enable you to learn the basic tools and equipment used ina maintenance shop. It is not intended to cover all tools used by a mechanic, butit will give you a job knowledge needed to perform your duties.This subcourse consists of three lessons and an examination organized asfollows:Lesson 1Common Use of Hand and Precision Measuring ToolsScope-Knowledge of tools, uses, and care to include inspection andlimited repair.Lesson 2Pipefitting ProceduresScope-Function, nomenclature, and procedures of pipefitting.Lesson 3Introduction to Welding, Cutting, Brazing, and SolderingScope - Principles and procedures of welding and cuttingequipment, brazing, and soldering.Please Note: Practice Exercises appear throughout each of the lessons.
