I would be very suspicious of the advice in this book. One glance and I saw the entry on asparagus saying that it dissolves uric crystals. As someone with gout, I can tell you it does the exact opposite. Asparagus is a purine-rich food, and the breakdown of purines leads to uric-acid crystals in gout-afflicted individuals. Therefore recommending asparagus in the case at hand is really bad and irresponsible advice that could bring pain to others suffering with gout. See here for more, or do a Google search:

Of course it is always good sense to check more info on any substance before one ingests it, especially if one is already dealing with medical troubles; this kind of mistake above though makes me automatically question everything else in this compilation.
