Even with an unprecedented $100 billion of economic-stimulus funding to redress the huge cuts by states and to fund programs for special education, low-income students, early education initiatives and to embark on education reform efforts, there may be applications for more funding than is available, and however the funds are allocated, the U.S. Department of Education will be accountable for whether these funds were spent productively or viewed as wasteful. It may be possible to develop metrics using SROI to (1) calculate who should receive funding and for how much and (2) to measure the results of this funding based on predetermined criteria using SROI concepts.
