Strings attached
A senior IPS officer was all set to makegood of his very lucrative recent postingbut to his dismay some string pulling at thepolitical level saw him shunted outimmediately after. Infuriated by the“injustice,” the officer took out hisfrustration on the poor orderlies.According to sources the orderlies hada tough time to sway out of the wayof innumerable office stationeriesthat were thrown at them.
 The last laugh
There’s at least one policeman whokeeps to his words. A senior IPSofficer was recently transferred outand while grudgingly leaving the manhad promised to be back at his positionanytime soon. True to his words he is backand is indeed having the last laugh asothers watch in awe and envy.
Hoax, hoax
Journalists were in for a rude shock at thestate top cop’s office recently. Eagerlywaiting for a scheduled press conferencethe reporters were in for a rude shockwhen the visibly irritated IPS said it was ahoax call and shooed them out of his office.
Join the club
The policemen in the city are all set to formtheir own union to protect their rights. Fewof the top officers who were rudely awakenfrom their slumber during the recent HighCourt clashes, where they were literallymanhandled by the advocates, are pressingfor a Police Union. If the move comesthrough it will be a first of its kind in thestate.

Sample this: Which wasthe most emailed attachment inrecent times, pushing aside eventhe likes of the King Khan? There was some one in the audiencethat got that right – it was Sa-tyam’s Ramalinga Raju’s confes-sional letter. Needless to say, it was a Satyam employee. The winners took home a cashaward of Rs. 25,000, LCD TVsfrom Samsung, watches fromHelvetica, mobile phones from Wavetel, printers from ModernComputers and several other gifthampers.

n a delightful departurefrom norms, that in hind-sight probably not all got,Koothu-p-pattarai over the weekend debuted its play ‘Ar- junan Thabasu,’ in which all theactors took turns to play therole of the protagonist and the jester in different scenes. Veteran playwright and direc-tor of the play N.Muthuswamy explained the inter-change of roles as a modern licence. “As itis a modern play we can bring in lot of innovation. Here thestory and characters neverchange; only actors change. This is a new attempt from meand the audience has also re-ceived it well.”The neatly-packed play wasall about Arjuna’s journey to Hi-malayas to receive the Paasu-pathaasthra from Lord Shivaand the obstacles that he over-comes before getting the weap-on, with new interpretationsand a different narrative style. The play portrayed that fromtime immemorial mankind hasindulged in the arms race andcountries continue to horde weapons for war.It also gave equal importanceto all the actors to perform therole of Arjuna and the kattai-kaaran (jester). Though a bitconfusing in the beginning, theplay in due course of timehelped the audience travelalong the story easily. The elev-en actors took turns and per-formed more than twocharacters each, displaying dexterous change in body lan-guage and voice modulation. Ina way, the actors got to performmore than one role, stretching their skills to the extremes. And as the koothu-p-patta-rai’s current crop of artistes per-formed at the group’sauditorium at Chinmaya Nagarin Virugambakkam, the group’sveteran and actor Pasupathi watched from the shadows.
