So, Enam, we'retalking about arrangedmarriages, but what aboutthe rate of divorce of arranged marriages? Is ithigh?
Enam:
Well, actually, therate is incredibly low.Actually, it's below tenpercent and it's changingbut still it's really low andthe reason I think isbecause the culture inBangladesh ... in that kindof culture, boys and girlsare like grown-up indifferent ways, and theydon't really see eachother that closely, andthat's why when you aremarried with a person,you start to know thatperson after different ...opposite gender ... quitewell and that helpsdevelop an understandingand they both ... both of them try to understandeach other - their values -and in the culturalbackground it's normallydecided that they have tobe together normallywithout exception for therest of their lives, so they just try to work in thatway. Do you have ahigher divorce rate in your country?
Katia:
Actually,unfortunately it isincreasing. I really don'tknow the percentage butwhen I was young, if somebody of my friendsparents would get adivorce that would bevery shocking to hear. Itwasn't common. But now,a lot of my friends actuallyare going though divorceor their parents havedivorced, which it wasn'tcommon but now itseems a little bit morecommon, so unfortunatelythings are changing inMexico.
Enam:
Why do you thinkthat the divorce rate isgoing up? What could bethe reason behind this?
Katia:
I think it's veryhard to say but I thinkthey're various reasons.For example, womendidn't used to work. Theyused to stay home andtake care of the house,the husband, the children,but now women havebecome moreindependent. They havebeen able to makedifferent decisions thatbefore they didn't have to,so I think theindependence of thewomen has changedthings and perhaps theculture itself, the cultureof marriage and divorce, ithas changed also so Ithink possibly those tworeasons.

: Why do you think that

: I think it's very hard to say but Ithink they're various reasons. For example, women didn't used to work.They used to stay home and take care of the house, the husband, the children, butnow women have become moreindependent. They have been able tomake different decisions that before theydidn't have to, so I think theindependence of the women haschanged things and perhaps the cultureitself, the culture of marriage anddivorce,
