Roundtable introductions were made and new members were welcomed and briefed on the ‘committee’s mandate and prior activities. ‘The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR Shitley Gust was nominated as Chair of the South Fraser Family Court and Youth Justice Committee. Shirley Gust accepted the nomination. No further nominations were made and Shirley Gust was acclaimed as Chair of the South Fraser Family Court and Youth Justice Committee for a one-year term. Barbara Westlake was nominated as Vice-Chair of the South Fraser Family Court and Youth Justice Committee. Barbara Westlake accepted the nomination, No further nominations were made and Barbara Westlake was acclaimed as Vice-Chair of the South Fraser Family Court and ‘Youth Justice Committee for a one-year term. CARRIED PREVIOUS MINUTES It was MOVED and SECONDED ‘THAT the South Fraser Family Court and Youth Justice Committee adopt the minutes for its regular meeting held December 4, 2008 as circulated. CARRIED DELEGATIONS None. PRESENTATIONS None. REPORTS None. COUNCIL RESOLUTONS AND REFERRALS None. SUB-COMMITTEE UPDATES a) . He provided a history of the Youth Pol committee for the benefit of new members. b) Paper Forum Shirley Gust advised that the final Paper Forum report will be brought forward next month, ©) Protection of Children Abusing Drugs Legislation Barbara Westlake advised of legislation compelling detox for thei treated for drug and alcohol abuse. It is not uncommon for children to be legally able to direct their own health at the age of 14, or younger. When this is the case, parents do not have the authority to compel their child to attend a detox facility, ITEMS FOR INFORMATION None. OTHER BUSINESS Action Item A new sub-committee will be formed for the protection of children abusing drugs. ROUND TABLE No items presented.
