Q: What is the difference between the Hydro 7000 series, and the Nitro 8000 series of shocks?

A: The simple answer is Nitrogen. But the simple answer isn't as simple as it seems. TheHydro 7000 shock is an oil dampened shock built for the rigors of occasional off road use.As the piston moves up and down in the cylinder, the oil that is used to control pistonmovement is passed through the piston. Each time the piston cycles, small bubbles form inthe oil. During highway driving this isn't noticeable, but under repeated long cycling thathappens when you're on the trail, the oil can become frothy and the shock loses itsdampening ability.This is where the Nitro 8000 comes into play. As the name implies, the Nitro 8000 is filledwith nitrogen. The shock tube is pressurized with Nitrogen to 150psi. The nitrogendisplaces any air that was in the shock tube. The result is greatly reduced foaming of theshock oil during hard use.In addition to the use of nitrogen, the Nitro 8000 also employs speed sensitive valving. Thesize of the holes in the piston that allow the oil to flow through dynamically change basedupon load.
