When you decide to give affiliate marketing a try, you’re going to find that in some instances, the burden has been placed on the product owner, relieving you from having to do much of the work when it comes to profitability.
But you are responsible for the most important part of the equation – getting highly targeted traffic to the domain that will convert into a sale. The product owner can have the best product in the world, but without traffic that’s willing to spend money on it, it’s worthless.
Your role as an affiliate marketer is to attract the prospects most likely to buy and send them on their way to the product owner’s site through your own cloaked affiliate link.
The product owner’s role is to find a niche where there’s demand for a solution to a problem, create the product, and launch it on the Internet with a high-converting sales page and top quality customer service.
Many affiliates mistakenly think they’re burdened with the selling aspect. You don’t have to convert a thing – the product owner’s sales pitch should do that. But you can presell in your affiliate strategy, if you do it the right way so that your prospect doesn’t feel like he’s been sold to twice.
You have a responsibility as the owner of your business to evaluate affiliate products carefully, making sure that any effort you put into promoting a specific product will pay off for you in the end.
The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to have any startup funds. Technically, you can begin promoting a dozen different products if you wanted to right this second, and in mere minutes, begin seeing commissions build up.
A good affiliate goes beyond the basics of creating a link and planting it on the web. He gets to know the product he’s promoting so that his recommendation comes through like a strong peer-to-peer reference, not a spammy pitch to make some quick cash on the ‘net.
There are different ways to invest in your business. You can shell out a lot of money for tools you barely know how to use, hoping to hit the jackpot, or you can invest the time it takes to truly get an affiliate marketer’s education so that you graduate to a six-figure (or more) salary on your own timetable.
