Protrack Anti-Poaching Officer mauled to death by lioness
In the recent few weeks disastrousevents unfolded resulting in the tragicloss of life. One of Protrack’s seasonedanti-poaching veterans was killed onduty when he was dragged from hiscamp by a lioness. This event was thecause of great shock,
sadness andanger from the family and friends of thedeceased and members of Protrackalike. It quickly made nation wide newsfollowed by speculation of how thiscould happen. The matter has beenthoroughly investigated by the SAPS,Nature conservation authorities and thevarious stake holders. The fact remainshowever that is was a tragic accidentthat happened in a potentiallydangerous work environment and couldhave happened to anybody in the samesituation.It is unconstructive to try to allocateblame after the fact, yet adherence tothe set guidelines and training given tothe employees who work in theseconditions would likely have preventedthis disaster. Protrack employees areput through stringent trainingmethodologies to deal with working inareas containing dangerous game.They have to rely on their wit, commonsense and training to keep them out of harm’s way and as a last resort, afirearm, which every team is issued before being dispatched onto their post.
