Music Videos That I Admire

The Soviet - Monotony

I enjoy this video immensely as the pace of the editing fits the song perfectly. The constant close ups of the instruments and the band are very effective, and I will definitely replicate in my music video.

I also liked the face that some of the cameras were not in a fixed place, as moved freely around, this was very effective and made the video a lot more interesting.
The lighting is also very interesting. It is very bright at some parts, but at other times the band are in the shadows, I really like this contrast as it makes the brighter parts of the video stand out.

The Districts - Radiator

This is also a video that uses a free camera as well as a fixed camera while shooting the band. I think this is a very effective way of capturing the band in a more natural way. It is a lot less constricting than just having mounted cameras.
I really like the third shot on this page, they used a fisheye/wide angle for the drums to make sure the whole kit was in the frame. I will definitely want to mimic this for my music video. I also like how the whole video has a very subtle colour theme because of the room being the same sort colour, I will hope to replicate this with gels over lighting, this will be a lot more obvious, but will create a very effective effect.

The Black Keys Little Black Submarines

This video also seems to have a subtle colour scheme of red and black.

As well as the usual close up shots that all three of these videos have, I also want to have a long shot of the band that is visible in the third image.
I also like that in some shots, only have the elements in the frame are actually in focus. I think this is vey effective as it draws more attention to specific things.
