And the Martinsville Speedway, home of the Goody's Fast Relief 500, has been a part of it fromthe beginning. When NASCAR was formed in 1948, the Martinsville Speedway had already been openfor a year, and ran its first NASCAR race on July 4th that same year. The next year, the MartinsvilleSpeedway ran the sixth race in the series that would eventually become known as the NASCAR NEXTELCup Circuit.Click here for Goody

Tickets at one time.Opening in 1947 with 750 seats and a dirt track, the Martinsville Speedway still sports the smallest trackin what is now the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Circuit: two 800 foot straightaways with 12 degree bankingturns. But its small size hasn't diminished the entertainment of the racers or the fan. Many call it the"drag race" of the circuit just for that reason, the small size giving it a fun, fast pace. The MartinsvilleSpeedway became one of the first paved oval tracks in NASCAR and has since expanded to over 40,000seats with the best amenities for both fans and racers. It has sponsored dozens of Cup races and is theonly original NASCAR-sanctioned track still running NEXTEL Cup events. Goody's remains as a sponsor atthe track to this day, hosting races under many names over the years.It was on September 25, 1983 that Goody's Manufacturing Corporation sponsored the SeptemberWinston Cup race, billed as the Goody's 500, won by Ricky "Ironman" Rudd. Five years later, the Goody's500 would see its first live telecast on ESPN with Darrel Waltrip taking home the cup. 1987 saw thevictory of sophomore season driver and Rookie of the Year Dale Earnhardt, helping him rise to win hisfirst Winston Cup championship and returning in 1988 and 1991 to take home the Goody's 500 Cup.The 2009 NASCAR schedule has events taking place at the Martinsville Speedway at the end of March
