About te Autors
The Muslim American Civil Liberties Coalition (MACLC)
is a Ne York-based coalition of citizens,community and fait leaders, organizers, adocates, attorneys, and organizations. MACLC aims to gieoice to absent perspecties on issues of national security, counterterrorism, la enforcement, andciil rigts, especially as tey impact Muslim communities in post-9/11 Ne York City. MACLC firstformed in response to te publication of te Ne York City Police Department’s policy report entitled
“Radicalization In The West: The Homegrown Threat.” 
Te group aimed to engage te NYPD in aconstructie dialogue to callenge te report’s false assumptions and armful conclusions. MACLCmet on tree occasions it Commissioner Raymond Kelly and te autors of te NYPD Report,Mitc Silber and Arin Batt, to register concerns and delineate flas itin te NYPD Report. Inresponse to MACLC’s efforts, te Department only issued a clarification but did not disao tereport’s findings. Te 2012 reporting on te NYPD sureillance program as essentially confirmedat MACLC ad arned about in 2007 and 2008, and as led MACLC to join community leaders,elected officials, and oter ciil rigts groups in calls for oersigt, accountability and transparency.MACLC as also continued to seek to constructiely engage it te NYPD. To tat end, te Coalitionas issued an initation to Commissioner Kelly to a ton-all meeting to allo im to ear Muslimcommunities’ concerns it suspicionless sureillance. To date, tat initation as been ignored.
The Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR)
project is oused at MainStreet Legal Serices, Inc., te clinical arm of te CUNY Scool of La. CLEAR primarily aims to addresste legal needs of Muslim, Arab, Sout Asian, and oter communities in te Ne York City areatat are particularly affected by national security and counterterrorism policies and practices. Ourork is defined by our relationsips it communities and grassroots organizations ose membersis to sape and respond to national security and counterterrorism policies and practices affectingtem. CLEAR’s community-oriented approac combines free legal representation it oter sericesdirected at satisfying te fuller range of community concerns.
The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF)
, founded in 1974, is a nationalorganization tat protects and promotes te ciil rigts of Asian Americans. By combining litigation,adocacy, education, and organizing, AALDEF orks it Asian American communities across tecountry to secure uman rigts for all.
