Transcriber, this is Detective Keith Roberts, Louisville Metro Police Homicide Squad. Today's date is September 9, 2008. This will be a taped statement from William Thompson. This is, uh, in reference to Case file #08-197.

And for the record, could you please spell your name, and, uh, give me your home address, please.

And I'm taking this statement in reference to the events that happened on, uh, August the, uh, 20th, 2008 during the, uh, PRP football practice. And in your own words, if you can remember, describe, uh, from the beginning of practice to the end of practice what happened that day.

First, before we went to individuals, well, after we went to individuals, we was goin' to team. We went to go get our water break. Came back. We was already down there waitin' on defense and the linemen. Coach got mad. Somebody carried an attitude 'cause the linemen is always late comin' down for team. So he told all of us get on the line and said we gonna run. Most of us wasn't runnin', so he said we gonna run 'til somebody quit. So we started like around 5:00. Ran for like an hour. Then ain't nobody quit still, so it was close to like almost 6:15. We gotta practice. He's sayin' "Nobody gonna leave 'til somebody quits." So he kept runnin' us.

After somebody, like a group of us who he's runnin', we wasn't really runnin' for real, we was walkin' and laughin' and stuff, 'cause we wasn't about to run for no hour in the sun. And he made all of us do up-downs, and out of that group, he sayin' one of us gonna quit. Then somebody got mad, so they quit. Then he stopped practice. And a couple of us wanted to go get a drink of water, and we came back, and he started hollering' at us and asked us why we get a drink of water for and all this. Then it was after, then we just had a team talk.

Uh, when you, when you all get water breaks how are they given? Do you all take 'em as a team, or do you take water breaks individually?

And when you all break off into your own groups, like the linemen and the defensive backs, or whatever\u2026

Are those individuals given water breaks, or do they still wait and come back as a team?

Did, were you able to go on your own and take some, or did you wait 'til the coach said, "Go get a drink."
