ChairmanMr Manhar Mehta
Mr Manhar Mehta was elected to serve aschairman for the period 2009-2010.He is a Mechanical Engineer by profession.Since he came to the UK, in 1968, he hasorganised religious activities for the Jainscommunity here. He established anorganisation called Jain Samaj Leicester thathas grown and is now known as Jain SamajEurope. The organisation has built a beautifulJain Temple in Leicester where Manhar is aTrustee.He is also the Chairman of an organisationcalled The National Council of VanikAssociations(UK) that has around 25Jain/Vanik organisations affiliated to it; thusacting as their umbrella organisation.Being the Jain representative at MFGHC sinceits establishment, he has taken on theresponsibility to initiate Jain Spiritual Care(Chaplaincy) services for hospitals in the UK.He also represents the Jain faith at BrentMulti-Faith Forum and Brent SACRE.

The event was hosted by PeterBottomley MP and the MFGHC was launched byMrs Sarah Mullally, Chief Nursing Officer,Department of Health on behalf of the Minister of State (Health).Pictures of the eventare carriedon the MFGHC website.

representativesof the nine World Faiths:Bahai, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish,Muslim, Sikh and Zoroastrian Faiths.
The Purpose of MFGHC
The object of the
MFGHC
is the advancement of multi-faith healthcare chaplaincy in England andWales. The Group seeks to further this object byfacilitating a common understanding and supportfor healthcare chaplaincy amongst Faith Groups,chaplaincy bodies and users; providing a meansof consultation between the Faiths abouthealthcare chaplaincy; and working in co-operation with healthcare and chaplaincyorganisations, bodies and authorities.In particular, the
MFGHC
seeks to provide adviceto the Department of Health about multi-faithhealthcare chaplaincy on behalf of all FaithGroups; to enable those Faith Groups engaged inhealthcare chaplaincy to formulate, agree andpromulgate policy on healthcare chaplaincy inconsultation with other chaplaincy bodies; and topromote the highest quality of healthcarechaplaincy through the development of agreedstandards across all Faith Groups and withinhealthcare organisations.

Membership of the MFGHC
Full membership of the Multi-Faith Group shall beopen to those Faith Groups in the United Kingdom
