GeneralMembership MeetingWednesday,March 18th, 8 p.m.LynnbrookRecreation Center
I am fortunate to be around theneighborhood a lot during theday. I go to the bus stop, walk intoBethesda, visit the playground andsledding hill when the opportunityarises and now have a new puppyto exercise. That has helped tokeep me in contact with neighborsall over East Bethesda. I amequally glad to have the websiteand email list as effective tools tobroaden my reach. The EBCA e- Alert system is used to sendperiodic notices of events orannouncements that are of interestto residents. Recently, we used it toalert neighbors to a series of robberies and attempted break-ins. In one case, thiscommunication led to additionalleads that we hope will help policecatch the perpetrators. Wecurrently have about 200 peopleregistered at www.ebca.org toreceive e-Alerts. If you have notdone so, I encourage you to sign uptoday. Just provide your name andemail and you will automaticallybe added to the list. This is themost effective way to stay in touchin a timely manner, and we willnever share the mailing list withanyone. This spring we will have severalopportunities to meet in person. OnMarch 18th, we have our quarterlygeneral membership meeting at8:00 p.m. in the LynnbrookRecreation Center on NewdaleRoad. We will discuss the schoolassignment survey conducted lastfall. We will also discuss and voteon whether to request theExaminer newspaper to stopservicing our neighborhood. (Seethe related article in the January/February issue.) Mark yourcalendars now for the May 20thmeeting when we will holdelections for officers for nextyear. If you are interested in beingpart of the EBCA executivecommittee, please contactpresident@ebca.org. There isalways room for anyone who canoffer their time to help make ourcommunity great. We are alsoplanning an informal gathering atthe playground (weatherpermitting) to celebrate the newequipment. Plans for thecommunity yard sale are currentlyon hold until we find someone toorganize the event. If you areinterested, contact social@ebca.org.Whether we see you in person oryou visit the website, we hope thatyou will connect with EBCA! After five and a half years of working with Montgomery CountyDepartment of Public Works andTransportation, the “accessrestriction” sign on Chelsea Lanehas been put in place. During theevening rush hour, over 500 carscome through Glenbrook Village ontheir way to Connecticut Avenueand beyond. This is due to the factthat the Jones Bridge Road andWisconsin Avenue intersection isfailing and drivers get frustratedwaiting in gridlocked traffic. Tagsurveys show that the vastmajority of cars are “cut through”commuters. Most drivers aretalking on phones, eating, playingloud music and otherwise notpaying attention. Speeds areexcessive and stop signs are notheeded. This is particularlyfrightening since most streets inGlenbrook Village do not havesidewalks and many peoplecommute by foot to the MedicalCenter area or into Bethesda. It isa problem that occurs for severalhours every day, disruptingotherwise peaceful residentialstreets. To make our streets safer, neighbors contacted DPWT in August 2003 to ask what could be

Playground Equipment
The Montgomery County ParksDepartment replaced the oldwooden structure at LynnbrookPark with a new piece of playequipment designed for ages 5-12. This will be a fantasticaddition to the playground. Thanksto Karen Auerbach for workingwith the Parks Department tobring this about. To officiallycelebrate the renovation, bring apicnic and join neighbors onSunday, March 29th at 3:00 p.m.for a neighborhood playdate andpicnic in the park. We hope to seeyou there!done. Their recommendation was“access restriction” for the rushhour. The issue was taken toEBCA, which voted to apply for therestriction November 2003. Thecounty ultimately confirmed thatthe situation did meet the criteriafor access restriction and followinga public hearing in November2007, the County Executive signedan Executive Order allowing thesign to be placed. Unfortunately, the restriction is for all vehiclesfrom 4:30-6:30 p.m. Despite theinconvenience for residents, anoverwhelming majority signed thefinal petition this fall in favor of the access restriction. The sign isposted on Wisconsin Avenue justbefore the turn and is temporary. A permanent sign will be installedafter the 60-day trial period. There are also new ‘permitparking’ signs in the neighborhoodon Gladwyne Drive between JonesBridge Road and Lynnbrook Drive. We will post information on thewebsite about how to get permitparking signs for your block.
