HISTORY
ResponsiveEd CEO Chuck Cook has seen firsthandthe effects a lack of education can have on youngadults. Chuck and his wife spent 5 years in inner-cityLos Angeles developing a learning center whichwould eventually become the largest privatelyfunded, inner-city adult education program in theUnited States. He decided to return to his home stateof Texas, carrying with him the passion and goal ofpreventing as many high school dropouts aspossible. Thus, the ResponsiveEd vision was born.Today, ResponsiveEd is the largest charter districtin the State of Texas, both geographically and innumber of campuses. We are currently servingover 3,500 students and have been grantedpermission by the Texas Education Agency toopen 10 new campuses! A growing number of students are not responding toconventional methods of education. We believeevery student has the capacity to succeed, and westrive to provide the opportunity for that success.Research in the area of high school dropoutsindicates that one out of every three high schoolstudents leaves school prior to graduating with ahigh school diploma.¹ We are dedicated to seeingthat number decline by providing an environmentwhere all students can succeed.

FROM THE CEO
On behalf of our Board of Directors,I am pleased to present the AnnualReport for Responsive EducationSolutions (ResponsiveEd). This yearhas been one characterized by growthand achievement. Our innovative, personalized approachto learning is becoming the trademarkof our success and a sought afterenvironment for all educationalsystems. Due to this success, the TexasEducation Agency has granted us thesignificant opportunity to open 10 newcampuses throughout our state. In this report, you will recognize, as wehave, a pattern in education thatprevents many students in our nationfrom reaching their full potential.Conventional education, clinging totraditional methods and practice, areincreasingly unable to meet the needsof every student. Students with theability to succeed academically arebecoming victims of a system thatcannot recognize the individual or tapinto the uniqueness of a person'slearning style. These students lose outon an education, a paycheck sufficientto meet their needs later in life, and theopportunity to teach their children thevalue of a high school diploma. The

opportunity that should exist for everystudent to graduate and take theirplace as a self-determined, productivemember of our society is fast becomingan unrealistic dream should someonenot intervene. At ResponsiveEd, we see thesestudents every day. We will not losethem. They can, and will, win. We willtake them as they are. Some come tous ashamed of their past failures. Some come to us frustrated by theinflexibility of conventional schoolsthat do not allow them to increasetheir learning opportunities. Somesimply need to know they can learn, and will learn, if educators are willingto take accountability for eachstudent. Yet, in each one we find acommon thread—each student needssomething more innovative thanconventional education can offer. In our Premier High Schools, oureducators and volunteers arededicated to fostering an environmentbased on trust, character, andcompassion that creates a true learningopportunity. We believe in the value ofguided independent learning. Thiscommitment to personalize educationallows us to “be there” when studentsfirst realize the ability to take control oftheir education and be responsible fortheir own success. To see studentsdevelop a “pride of ownership” andbegin to own their futures is our reward. Our desire, our hope, is to affectstudents today in a way that willpositively affect generations to come.
