Ladies: We asked and you answered!
By Miriam Erickson Brown
Last year, a transition team began working to develop moreministry opportunities for women at FFC. Successful programssuch as MOPS, women’s circles and the Beth Moore studiesprovided a strong foundation on which to build. The goal wasto identify the needs and desires of women who already enjoythese programs, as well as gain input from women not currentlyinvolved in any programming for women. Our leadership team partnered with a professional researchand marketing company in Texas. This firm guided us throughoutthe project (free of charge). Our research partner developed amulti-step research approach using one-on-one interviews andsurveys to collect the most accurate information. The results arein and they are astonishing!Half of the surveys passed out were completed, providing awonderful response. Of the women who filled out surveys, half were currently enjoying Womens Ministry programs and half were not involved in any women’s ministry activity. The surveys showed that women currently involved in wom-en’s ministries are generally older in age, while non-participantswere typically younger. The feedback showed that programs foryoung mothers and seniors are well developed, while there maybe a need for programs for women in other life stages.Activities combining fitness and spirituality, one-on-onementoring and weeknight drop- in events were among some of thestrongest suggestions. Scheduling and time constraints were bigbarriers for participation, while making connections with otherwomen and spiritual growth were great motivators for involvement. The next step is to engage a variety of leaders who will use theresponses and suggestions to expand the ministry to create newprograms with many opportunities for women in all life-stages.Ahhhhh…it really was all about “what a girl wants”.
By Joe Lightfoot, Pastor of Adult Ministries
In school I was taught that asignificant benefit of the IndustrialRevolution was that automation wouldmake work easier. Easier work wouldmean fewer work hours. Fewer work hours would mean more time for reallyimportant pursuits. This doesn’t seem to be true in reallife. “We are characterized by a restlessness that either propels usto truer achievement or reduces us to a permanent state of dissat-isfaction,” observes Dr. Charles Ringma, a professor of missionsand evangelism at Regent College. Most often the latter is true.Jacques Ellul, a French theologian and philosopher, commentson our plight, “The easier their work gets, the more people com-plain of deadly tedium. The more reasons they have to play andenjoy themselves, the more they get bored and go off in search of some inexpressible novelty.”The search for significance and a purposeful life remains elu-sive for many in our society. Marketers and advertisers understandthis. They play off of our dissatisfaction and help us know we needthe newest, shiniest, and best product of the day. These symbols of happiness created by our consumer societydon’t square with the themes of the Bible: servanthood overself, reconciliation over individual rights, giving away overgetting more…In God’s economy the bailout of the economy is contraryto human reasoning. Instead of being fulfilled in the pursuit of acquiring more and more, the Bible calls believers to a lowerstandard. Eugene Peterson puts Acts 20:35 this way: “You’ll notlikely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Mastersaid, ‘You’re far happier giving than getting.’”

New Hallway Doors
By Mike Rose, Senior Pastor
As you walk through thehallways of the ‘49 and ‘54buildings, you will notice newdoors being installed to replacemany of the original doors. TheLord has once again blessed uswith a generous donor who has offered to replace most of the 2and 3 door combinations on the first floor. This will bring manybenefits to this area: increased visibility, updated appearance andrenewed life to an aging structure. Gary Jaehnel, the Deaconsand I are thrilled for God’s supply in helping the church takepositive steps forward in the upkeep and advancement of the fa-cility He has given us. The total project is slated to be completedby the end of March.
