(It was to have premiered oneweek earlier, but the link set was not yet ready.) At its inception it wasa low-budget, local comedy program that included phone-incompetitions through which the viewer could win prizes (transistorradios, record albums, clothes, model kits, and the like). This portion of the program was broadcast live, although the majority of each episodewas pre-taped. The format also included performances by local discodancers, special guests such as Ottawa-based cartoonist Jim Unger, and music videos, usually three per episode. Every week the show tookits "Roving Camera" to kid hangouts around town and captured footageof kids telling jokes or complaining about the unfairness of life, whichwould be played on the following week's episode. The disco dancesegments were emceed by Jim Johnson, a DJ on Ottawa's leading popmusic radio station, CFGO (which at the time was co-owned with CJOH).
