TheGrowthandNeedsofSLACC
ManyofyouhavenowreadtheproposalwrittenastheinitialguidelinesforSpiritualLifeAndClergyCare.ItwaspartoftheGeneralConferenceDelegatepackets,onbluepaper(ppF9-F12).ThisproposaloutlinedmuchofSLACC'sfuturegrowthanddevelopmentwhileemphasizingthateachstagewouldevolveastalent,resources,financesandtimeallowed.Enoughhashappenedtotakethespacetotellaboutrecentgrowthandcontinuingneedsforassistance.
PENSIONPLAN
TheproposalforSLACCincludedthatthisinstitution,withauthorizationfromtheBoardofElders,mightinitiateandfacilitateclergybenefitplanssuchasretirement,healthinsurance,etc.InthecaseoftheClergyPensionPlan,approvedbyGeneralConference,SLACCwasafurtherimpetustodeveloptheproposalandisthestaffofficeoftheBoardofPensions.TheBoardofPensionswillbeaseparatelyincorporatedentitywhichwillmakealldecisionsregardingthecourseanddirectionofourownpensionforthebenefitoftheclergy.SLACCwillcarryoutthedirectivesoftheBoardofPensions,mostofwhichwillsurroundinformationgatheringanddis-seminationandrecordkeeping.Questions,information,etc.concerningthepensionshouldbesenttoPension,P.O.Box691566,LosAngeles,CA90069.TheBoardofElderswillappointthefivememberstotheBoardofPensions(threelayandtwoordainedclergy).Theyhavealreadyrequestedresumesfromqualifiedapplicantsthroughaspecialenclosurewith"KeepingInTouch."IunderstandthatinquiriesaboutservingonthisBoardhavecomefrompeoplewithbackgroundsinmainlinedenominationpensionprograms,in-vestmentbrokersandinsuranceexecutives.Remember,theproposalforthepensionplanwhichisintheGeneralConferencepacketsisjusttheplandesignandnottheplanitself.Theplanismuchmoredetailedandwillbecomemore.soastheBoardofPensionguidesitsdevelopment.Therecordkeepingsystemisbeingsetupbythisofficewiththeinformationclergygaveonthepensionquestionnaire.Clergy,ifyouhavenotyetsentinyourquestionnaire,pleasedosoasthiscorrectin-formationisneeded.Ifyoudidnotreceiveoneorhavelostit,notifymeandIwillsendyouone.AsvotedbytheGeneralConference,thepensionplanwillbe

congregationof30centsperactivevotingmember(memberingoodstanding)permonth.Thisispayablequarterly(payingthreemonths'assessmentatonetime)tothepensionfund.TheassessmentbeginsJanuary1,1984withthefirstquarter'spay-mentduenolaterthanApril10,1984.ThisobligationhasthesamesanctionsasthosewhichapplytotheFellowshiptitheandtheDistrictassessment.(SeeResolutionsNos.2,3and6,p.A-118oftheG.c.packet).EachlocalcongregationwillpaythisassessmentwhetherornotthereisalicensedorordainedMCCclergypersonaspastor,interimpastororworshipcoordinator.Likewise,thepermemberassessmentdoes
not
increasewhenthereisanassistantorassociatepastororclergyonstaff.Thisplanisnottobeviewedasapartofalocalchurch'sbenefitpackagebutisacontributiontotheFellowship'spensionplanforalleligibleclergy.Manycongre-gationswillchoosetoofferanadditionalretirementprogramspecificallyfortheirpastorasapartofthebenefitpackage.Forfurtherclarityabouttheplanreviewtheproposalandrelevantresolutions(pp.A106,Al18)passedbytheGeneralConference.Furtherinformationwillbesentasmoredetailsareavailable.
SLACCOFFICE
Samaritangenerouslyofferedspaceforaprivateofficeadjacenttotheschool.Thisofficehasitsownprivateentrytothepublichallwayandisnotaccessiblefromtheschoolcomplex.TheSLACCofficeisnestledawayinaquietcornerofthefirstfloorwhilethehubbubofFellowshipbusinessoccursonthethirdfloor.Theofficeisnewlypaintedandfurnishedwithpersonalequipmentofdesk,bookcases,filecabinetandchairs.Thebestfeatureofthisnewofficeisthatitprovidescompleteprivacyandconfidentialitytoallwhoseekitsservices.Offpremisecounselingisavailableforthoseofyouwhofeelmorecomfortablemeetingelsewhere.
FINANCES
Thisareaisdevelopingtheslowest.TheGeneralConferencedidauthorize,inthebudget,thatSLACCmayraise$25,000ir.thissixmonths,however,noneofthismoneymaycomefromtheregulartithesandotherincomewhichfinancetheFellowship.Thisgivesusapaperfiguretouseinapproachingfoundations.Ofevenmorebenefitinthisandinmeetingcurrentexpenseswould

OneofourFellowship'sgreatestneeds educationallyhasbeentoprovideadequate trainingforourpastors.Theneedhasbeen forboththetrainingofstudentclergyand thecontinuingeducationofclergy.Ihave beenblessedwiththeopportunityto announceanewprogramcalled"Orien- tationtoMCCPastoring"thatwillbe sponsoredbySamaritanCollegenext summer.Thisprogramwasdesignedbythe SamaritanManagementTeamatitsMarch 1983meeting.Ithassincebeenrevised basedonfeedbackfromtheClergyCre- dentialsandConcernsCommittee,the BoardofElders,thefacultyofSamaritan College,andnumerousotherindividuals throughoutUFMCC. TheOrientationtoMCCPastoringis designedtoprovidetrainingtostudent clergyandcontinuingeducationtoclergy inthepracticalaspectsofpastoringin MCC.Theentireprogramisdesignedasa sixweekintensiveseriesofseminars.
