fense.Though many of us are familiar with thisbasic information about a shaman, notmany of us have had the opportunity tolevel one to 80. I have recently done soand find that my main difficulty with ashaman is that sometimes their definingability, the totems, can be a hindrance or burden in some PVP situations. While only costing about 800 mana tocast, the time in having to cast them andhow easily they are destroyed makethem inferior to a hunter or warlock petby far. As a result, I find that I myself don’t use many of my totems in a PVPfight much depending on the situation. In PVE each encounter with a mob or boss is a little different and calls for dif-ferent totems. They are usually cast atthe beginning of the encounter; the to-tems used being tuned to what isneeded. A good example is mana springtotem is often used for those fights that are heal-ing and casting intensiveto help our healers andmana using DPS maintaina usable mana poolthroughout the whole fight.Grounding totems areused for fights where thereare lots of mobs that needto be slowed so they canbe killed easily. And thereare also many other to-tems available that reallyaffect the raid in way of buffs and use.My personal opinion isthat shamans are kind of the Swiss armyknife of the classes. They have theadaptability for almost any encounter dueto being available for melee or rangedDPS and healing with simple spec altera-tions. Many of us have seen just howuseful and versatile the shaman is fromraiding with some of guild shamans in-cluding Meowcake who is enhance, Pen-nery who is resto, Ravenshield who iselemental. Anyone who has raiding withthese shaman or others know just howuseful it is to keep these guys around, from the totem buffs to the blood lust, which provides us with a 30% speedincrease which is essential in boss fightswhere you’re in a race against time.Pretty much, the lesson here is to lovethe shaman, appreciate the abilities theyhave to offer and if you are looking for a class that canprovide
you withversatility in playstyles, it’s defi-nitely one to con-sider.
