Doctrine of the Flesh
1. The world
“flesh”
is used in a variety of ways in the
 New Testament.
2. The word
“flesh”
is used to speak of mankind in general.
Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh besaved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
3. The word
“flesh”
is used to speak of physical sexual unity between a man and his wife.
Matthew 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shallcleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
:
6 Wherefore they are no moretwain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
4.. The word
“flesh”
is used to speak of the natural limitations of the body.
Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed iswilling, but the flesh is weak.
5. The word “flesh” is used to refer to all types of men that are promised salvation.
Luke 3:6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
6. The word
“flesh”
is used to refer to the physical body.
Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for aspirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
7. The word
“flesh”
is used metaphorically to refer to the body of Christ and thus to spirituallife
John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of thisbread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, Howcan this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I sayunto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raisehim up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

8. If a person is saved it will not be because of his won inclination or will.
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
9. God honored the flesh of man through the incarnation.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
10. Flesh can only beget flesh, which means that like can only produce after its kind. No one hasever been saved because they were born physically into a particular sphere of existence.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit isspirit.
11. Only the Holy Spirit can regenerate the soul. The flesh of man, referring to all that he is bynatural birth, has no part in the process.
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
12. The Lord Jesus Christ has been invested with sovereignty over all men.
John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life toas many as thou hast given him.
1. In matchless grace God has been pleased to pour out the gift of the Holy Spirit upon alltypes of men in these last days. D
Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young menshall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
2. The flesh or the body is the seat of human emotions.
Acts 2:26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
3. Many spiritual promises are united with the flesh such as the promise of the Messiah.
Acts 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath tohim, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit onhis throne;
:
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul wasnot left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

4. The humanity of Christ is affirmed according to the flesh.
Romans 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of  David according to the flesh;
Romans 9:5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God wasmanifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
.5. To deny the incarnation is the spirit of anti-Christ.
1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that JesusChrist is come in the flesh is of God:
1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come;and even now already is it in the world.
2 John 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that JesusChrist is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
6. The true “Jew” in the sight of God refers not to the flesh but to those who have beencircumcised spiritually in the heart.
Romans 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Romans 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
18. The deeds of the flesh shall never justify a soul in the sight of God.
Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in hissight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin
7. The justification of Abraham was not based upon the works of the flesh he did in his bodybut upon faith.
Romans 4:1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
