By “prayer” I mean meaningful, clearly focused dialogue with theFather of their spirits, and Maker of their bodies and souls. I meantimes that God is pleased andhonored, and persuaded to liftHis mighty Hand...
My assumption is that most, even many o the most God-earing, lovingSaints—have a difcult time praying. By “prayer” I mean meaningul, clearlyocused dialogue with the Father o their spirits, and Maker o their bodiesand souls. I mean times that God is pleased, and honored, and persuadedto lit His mighty Hand... as He would not have been willing to do, had wenot bowed in His Presence and spoken to him. Jesus seemed surprised anddisappointed that His closestdisciples were not, at that time, ableto pray even or “one hour” withoutalling asleep. Again, my reason orgetting into this is that I think mostBelievers today, regardless o howmuch they know o God’s Heartand Mind regarding the aairs o men and angels, still fnd it difcultto spend one hour (or more) purelydevoted to being in His Presence. Distractions, boredom, a sense o repetitivereligious jargon, drowsiness and sleep, and many other symptoms are airlydescriptive o how most o the Elect would describe their times in prayer—more oten than they would ever desire.
What are the hindrances to being with Father and discussing thingswith Him in “prayer”?
I would credit several actors or this difculty thatwe have in being on our knees—undistracted, enamored, enraptured, clear-minded, and productive in conversation and petition and worship with theFather, Son, and Holy Spirit…

1. We may not take the time to See our need to be with Him by properlyassessing our great impotence and His great love and power. An excerpt roma time together several years ago might help clariy what I mean. (Page 11).Seeing God properly and OURSELVES properly supplies GREAT motivationto speak with Him urgently and oten and clearly.2. Another issue is this: Because prayer is REAL in the spiritual realm, astangible and substantial as a house or an elephant or an automobile is in ourrealm… and because God the Father and the Spirit and the Lamb are incitedto Holy Action in response to “the eective, ervent prayer o a righteousman”… because the Spirit AND the Bride (the Church) TOGETHER say“COME” to the conquering Revelation o Jesus Christ… rest assured that allo hell’s demons will try to conuse and atigue and distract you rom prayer. All the more incentive to shove it in the devil’s ace by learning to pray, andpressing to Home on a daily basis, don’t you think?3. Another reason that we may, even with the best intentions, not pray wellor oten or thoroughly enough to gain much notice in the Heavenly Courtsis that most honestly don’t know HOW to pray. As much as they’d like todo so, many have only experienced times o ellowship with the Father(prayer) irregularly or seasonally, at best. Many, many times this is simplybecause they can respond to the ecstasy o Joy that the Father may grant inthe orm o blessing or emotional, upliting events…or, they can respond inprayer to moments o great tragedy or misery and all prostrate beore theirFather remembering their need or Him in crisis…but they fnd it next toimpossible to pray or speak with Him clearly and in a productive way whenthere is no ecstasy or crisis to drive the moment. It is or these times, the daily building o a relationship with Him in “prayer,”that we’ve started into this discussion together. It is SO important that ourprayer be oten driven by the DESIRE to be with Him and worship Him andgain His intervention in the world He has placed us in, rather than beingprimarily driven by ecstasy, crisis, or our “needs.” It is or every day “teachus to pray!” sorts o times that I address this topic at this time. Ater all, isn’tthat the substance o any true relationship? It CAN’T be simply crisis or“need based” and be wholesome, ulflling, or alive, can it?The Father longs to be with us and interact with us in real ways just as wewould in any other relationship. We wouldn’t or extended periods o time just say, “hi—bye—goodnight, honey” to ourspouses and expect any depth o relationshipto be there. Or i we just turned to them whenwe wanted something rom them, what kindo relationship would that be? How would youeel i someone treated you this way? Obviouslythis was not how Jesus and His trusted andbeloved Father related to each other…NOR ISIT YOUR DESTINY! God the Spirit is Workingat this very moment in you towards somethingvery special with the Father and His Son Jesus...Let’s consider a ew verses beore continuing.“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people o other religions do. Theythink their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again andagain… Pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored.May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, justas it is in heaven. Give us our ood or today, and orgive us our sins, just aswe have orgiven those who have sinned against us. And don’t let us yield totemptation, but deliver us rom the evil one’” (Matthew 6:7-13 NLT).Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this illustration: “Supposeyou went to a riend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves o bread. You would say to him, ‘A riend o mine has just arrived or a visit, and I have nothing or him to eat.’ He would call out rom his bedroom,‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked or the night, and we are all in bed.I can’t help you this time.’ But I tell you this—though he won’t do it as ariend, i you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatyou want so his reputation won’t be damaged. And so I tell you, keep onasking, and you will be given what you ask or. Keep on looking, and youwill fnd. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyonewho asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, fnds. And the door is opened toeveryone who knocks. You athers—i your children ask or a fsh, do yougive them a snake instead? Or i they ask or an egg, do you give them ascorpion? O course not! I you sinul people know how to give good gitsto your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the HolySpirit to those who ask him” (Luke 11:5-13 NLT).
First of all, understandthat God is not so muchwanting to just give us abunch of stuff as He is wanting to makeus into the Image of HisFirstborn, Jesus.
