Modesty: Jesus’Invitation
To His Bride—To Us!

Tough this may ocus on the issue we call “modesty,” it is rst and ore-most an expression o our need or God and our need or His cleansing andLie and Mercy on our lives. Why? Because apart rom His touch on ourlives and His imparted vision to us, we will not be able to understand mucho anything about His Heart or this temporary material realm. Tis is notabout the “do’s and don’ts” o a Christian’s proper moral dress code. It is theJourney o nding God’s Heart. Legalism is death, just as ignoring God’sHeart is atal. Tis is
not
about legalism
or
license. It’s about HIM. Tis isabout being drawn deeper into the heart o God and having our hearts andminds renewed rom the inside. It is about loving Him more deeply, andagain, seeing why He has very specic thoughts and opinions about how weclothe our physical bodies.
Part I
Changing Our Eye-Glasses
It is always worth reminding ourselves what our part is, as ollowers o Jesus.Obvious, we say? Sometimes we lose sight o the act that GOD is God. Tat

means that He calls the shots. He sets the course. He makes the decisions. Heis the Potter and we are the clay. He is the Creator; we are His created beings.Tat is very important to x clearly in our hearts and minds at every turn.Tat we will submit to, obey and ultimately love His commands, decreesand thoughts. No “Yeah, God, but....I don’t like that.” Or “I don’t think that’sso important...” Tere is no way a child o God can hold that kind o selsh,prideul attitude and expect to prosper in Christ and grow spiritually. Godmakes certain, every so oen, that we have practical “lie tests” to see how surrendered we are to Jesus. Our hope is that you nd in this, another op-portunity to lay everything at His eet, with a mind and will to obey Him, nomatter what the cost. Tis may be, or you, a topic that provides that oppor-tunity. Please, take it seriously. I you have le everything to ollow Jesus, justlike people in His day-- i that is your intent and heart, then don’t stop now!Don’t let your personal experiences or preerences or pride or vanity be yourgod or your guide. He deserves ar better than that. “Do you not know that...you are not your own: you were bought at a price? Tereore honor God withyour body.” (1 Cor 6:19-20)It will be very helpul, as we approach God and His Word about modesty, i we rst understand what it is that we’ve most likely been taught and exposedto all our lives. I we’ve been raised in mainstream America, or most any other culture or civilization or nation, we have been orce-ed a steady dieto sensualism, immodesty, immorality and esh. Our minds and opinionshave usually been saturated with the world’s point o view, not God’s point o  view. As children o the King, our whole oundation and rame o reerencemust change rom that o the world! Please understand that we all have aworldly point o view prior to God
“Tereore, I urge you, brothers, in view o God’s mercy, to oer your bodies as living sacrifces, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act o worship. Do not conormany longer to the pattern o this world, but be transormed by the renewing o your mind.” Romans 12: 1-2
“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as theGentiles do, in the utility o their thinking...You were taught, with regard to your  ormer way o lie, to put o your old sel, which is being corrupted by its deceitul desires; to be made new in the attitude o your minds; and to put on the new sel,created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4: 17,22-24
changing our hearts and creating a new person with a new mind. Paul speakso the need to be renewed in the attitudes o our minds and to throw o theworldly perspectives.
Our minds must be renewed by God, and part o that process involvesrecognizing and repenting o patterns o this world. We have had ourminds so saturated with what the world deems “valuable” in regard to ourbodies: a slim waistline, shapes, muscles and eatures; appealing cloth-ing to draw the eyes o men and women. Te enemy is orever lying tous that appearance means everything and denes who we are. Te worldconstantly screams that appearance is o utmost importance and whispersinvitations to drink in the parade o sensuality rom billboards, maga-zines, advertisements, clothing stores, movies and television. Te worldsays that it’s only
natural
and
normal
to be drawn to the eshly appeal o immodest dress. It’s okay! Enjoy! Indulge! Our eyes and ears have beenso bombarded with a godless, sensual standard, that we have been almostcompletely dulled to the Standard and the thoughts o God Himsel. It isa act o spiritual lie in God and obeying His Son that when we are edworldly thinking and breathe its air and absorb its lies and its standardsor living, it is impossible to see clearly and understand and hear God’sHeart on other matters, either.
Please, take responsibility. Go in your room and shut the door and ace Godon this matter. Honestly ask Him to open your eyes and expose the wholething to you personally, to help you see it or what it is. It will do you abso-lutely no good whatsoever to go on reading this i you won’t question yourown opinions about how you dress, and i you don’t ask God specically to cleanse and renew your mind on these matters. And the other responseo just “doing it,”—changing your dress because it’s the moral and religiousthing to do—that’s no good either. Our choice to submit our thinking andour hearts to God and change our ways must be because we see Jesus andwe respond to Him as a Person. We don’t have to understand all the detailsin order to surrender to His Lordship. Our peace will be ound in becomingso hearted and ready to respond to our Living God who has thoughts rightnow about all this. Find Him! Call out to Him! Search or Him on this mat-ter with your whole heart. He wants to richly bless you and draw you to Hisside and ll you with the Glory and goodness o His Holy Word. Here is apromise that He has made with us according to His Word:
“For we are the temple o the living God. As God has said: `I will live with themand walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.’ `Tereore come out rom them and be separate, says the Lord. ouch no uncleanthing, and I will receive you.’ `I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sonsand daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’
