What is an object?
In CorelDraw, an object isany item you create orimport into your document.It may be a rectangle, acircle, text, a photograph. Allwork in CorelDraw is donethrough selecting an object.Various effects can beapplied to an objectdepending on the type of object and the tool you haveselected. For this tutorial,choose the Rectangle Tooland create a rectangle. (SeeRectangle Tool tutorial in thisseries.)
Pick Tool Selection
 Choose the Pick Tool fromthe Toolbox and click on therectangle. Note the 8 square"handles" that surround thesquare. These handlesindicate that the object isactive. You can resize therectangle proportionately byclicking and dragging on thecorner handles. The sidehandles resize only in onedirection.

Move Object
 Click and drag anywhere ona filled object, or on theoutline of an object that hasno fill to move. Releasemouse button when object isin desired position. Clickanywhere off the rectangleto deselect.
Rotate Object
 Double click on therectangle. Note how thehandles change to double-ended arrows. This indicatesthat the object can berotated or skewed. Click anddrag on corner handles torotate. Press the CTRL keywhile you rotate to constrainthe rotation to 15 degreeincrements. Note the target-like icon in the middle of therectangle when the rotateselection is active. Click anddrag this icon to change thepoint of rotation. Click off therectangle to deselect.

Skew Object
 Double click on the rectangleand the double-endedselection arrows will appear.Click and drag on one of theside handles to skew therectangle. Release mousebutton when desired effect iscreated.
Shape Tool Selection
 Delete the distortedrectangle. Draw a newrectangle. Choose the ShapeTool from the Toolbox andclick on the rectangle. Notethe selection now appears asfour corner handles anddotted lines. This indicatesthat the object is active withthe Shape Tool. Click anddrag on one of the cornerhandles. Note how thecorners become round. TheShape Tool and Pick Toolhave very different functionswith objects.
