Diary of an Electrosensitive, Part II
By Patricia 0rmsby
The long-overdue second installment of a look into the life of a person with a veryunpopular condition.
::::::::I wrote "Diary of an Electrosensitive, Part I" about a year ago, anticipating writing more soon, but I couldn't think of very much upbeatto say. I indicated in Part I that there were certain advantages to mycondition. The first is repayment of karmic debts in this life while wecan still remember what it is we are paying for. In my twenties, I scoffedat an older lady with environmental sensitivities. Furthermore, I haveadded, as we all have, to the continued destruction of the Earth'senvironment. Cash or check?-------I wrote the below as part of a thank you to Martin Weiss, who submitteda quicklink on mercury toxicity (see:http://www.opednews.com/populum/link.php?id=84617 ). I'm includingit here because I would like to highlight the connection betweenelectrosensitivity and mercury toxicity and thus irritability, anxiety and ahost of other modern plagues.I became aware of mercury toxicity, had my levels tested and have takenmeasures to reduce my mercury load. These have improved my healthand mood significantly. My awareness stemmed from electrosensitivity (ES), a condition inwhich a person becomes aware of reacting to electromagnetic fields of various kinds. It has been noted among the ES that their symptoms aresimilar to mercurytoxicity and that addressing this improves theircondition considerably. Some sensitivity remains, but is typically lessthan the levels at which the person initially became aware of theproblem. (http://www.powerwatch.org.uk has more information on ES.)For years, I had attacks of unexplainable irritability, which started afterintensive military training (the sensitizing event). I blamed myself andavoided social situations in which I could not easily excuse myself andleave. When cellular phone technology arrived in Tokyo, I began havingspells of dizziness and headaches and increasingly severe bouts of arrhythmia and memory loss. Awareness of cell phones as a possiblecause (thanks to an article in Earth Island Journal by Arthur Firstenberg)and measures to reduce my exposure to them resulted in considerablerelief. Realization that my irritability had an organic cause allowed me
