~
You can know that the Book of Mormon is true (see Moroni 10:3-5; Introductionto the Book of Mormon, paragraphs 1, 8-9)

What do things do you know? Raise your hand if you know your name andwhere we live. If you know how to recognize colors and shapes? If you knowhow to read? If you know how to ride a bike? All knowledge is important, but can you tell me what the most important truthyou can know is? To know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true is the mostimportant truth that you can ever learn. This knowledge is called a testimony!Remember how we learned last week about the Book of Mormon? Why do youthink it might be important to know that the Book of Mormon is true? How dowe find out for ourselves that it is true? The prophet Moroni (show GAK 320) gave us a special promise about gaining atestimony of the Book of Mormon. Moroni said that we should study the Book ofMormon, then ask God if it is true. If we do this with a sincere heart and havingfaith in Christ, He will manifest the truth of it unto us by the power of the HolyGhost. Many people have tested this wonderful promise and found out forthemselves that it works. Let’s read that promise. (Read together Moroni 10:3, 5)Pass out paper hearts and pencils. Write on paper hearts the things the scripturessay that one must do to gain a testimony—i.e., ask with a sincere heart, with realintent, having faith in Christ.

The Holy Ghost will teach you through your thoughts and feelings (see D&C8:2-3).

What does the witness of the Holy Ghost feel like? Sister Janette Beckhamreported that her four-year-old grandson told his parents, “When I pray, myheart feels like a roasted marshmallow” (see
Ensign,
Nov. 1997, pp. 75–76).Can you tell me about a time when you felt really peaceful? (Allow familymembers to share what the Holy Ghost feels like to them).Get your bag and place one of the items in the bag, making sure the family doesnot see it. Invite a child to come up and feel what is in the bag. Instruct him orher to describe to the group what it feels like. The child should not tell what it ismade of, only how it feels. (Example: “It feels long. It feels hard. It feels cold.”)The child may give the group only three clues, and then the family must try toguess what it is. Usually they are unable to guess from just the description. Nextinvite another child from the group to feel the same object. Ask the child if he orshe can tell what it is now. The child should be able to easily identify the object.Emphasize that it is much easier to tell what something is by feeling it yourselfthan by having it described to you.Liken this to a testimony. Someone can describe his or her testimony to you, butto really know what a testimony is you must feel it for yourself. You must haveyour own testimony. (Repeat the activity one or two times.)The Holy Ghost is called the “still, small voice” sometimes because He speaksvery quietly, as if He is whispering to our heart. Share the story of when yougained your own testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, focusingon how you felt the Spirit whisper to your heart.Encourage your children, especially those close to baptism age to study and prayabout the Book of Mormon so that they can know for themselves. Bear testimonyof Jesus Christ and His love for us.
