Begin with the song “Whatever Lola Wants” by Sarah Vaughn overthe opening credits.EXT - PARKING LOT – DAYThe screen is white as SARA talks in a voiceover. A red blotchcomes onto the screen towards the end of her speech.SARA (VO)When I was a little girl, I alwaysplayed with the boys. It wasn’tbecause I was a tomboy or becauseI was a dyke, it’s because I knew,even from a young age that I hadto be around boys. Boys would giveme anything I wanted. See, girlscan be possessive. Another girlhas a doll you want, you have tofight for it. A boy has somethingyou want; you only have to bat aneye. I never liked to play withgirls; it always brought out mybad side. My granddad always usedto say, as he read the police login the Daily Messenger, “If youget shot once, you’ve got a fifty-fifty chance to survive. You getshot twice, someone must have itout for you. And if you’reunfortunate enough to get shotthree times, that’s just badluck.”INT - KELLYS’ KITCHEN - DAYBefore this scene begins, the scene is black and we hear TammyWynette’s “Apartment #9.” The mother at the sink washing dishes.We can see all the way into the dining room. Sara comes into thekitchen and stands on the other side of the room, behind hermother.SARAI was talking the neighbor. Whydidn’t you tell me they wereputting in a pool?

MOTHER (BACK TO SARA)I didn’t know.SARAJim said he just decided lastweek.MOTHERI’m glad you’re home.SARAIt’s good to be home.MOTHERMoney running low?SARANo more than usual, where’s dad?MOTHERHe had to take your grandmother tothe doctor.SARAWhat’s wrong?MOTHERNothing, old people just needtheir oil changed more often.(pause) So what brings you back?SARAI had to pick up a few things.MOTHERIt’s a two hour drive.SARAThey were important. Aren’t youhappy to see me?MOTHERYeah, yeah. Let’s go into theliving room.The two exit the room. Sara goes to the right and the mother goesinto the dining room and changes the record to a Chet Atkinsrecord. She changes the record.
