YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ONLINE RESEARCH STUDY OF COLLEGE STUDENTS. THIS STUDY IS BEING CONDUCTED BY A DOCTORAL STUDENT IN THE SOCIOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF EMORY UNIVERSITY. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO LEARN ABOUT HOW COLLEGE STUDENTS MAKE THEIR EDUCATIONAL DECISIONS. THIS PROJECT WILL HELP US BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW STUDENTS AT DIFFERENT TYPES OF COLLEGES MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR EDUCATIONAL CAREERS.
Study procedures If you decide to join the study, you will be asked to complete a survey that will take approximately twenty five minutes to complete. You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time and you will not be penalized in any way. You will take the Internet survey on a computer. The website where the surveys are located is secure and any answers you give us will be safely stored on a password-protected computer that can only be accessed by Emory University researchers. Researchers will not be able to link your responses to your Facebook or LinkedIN page. You can refuse to answer a question at any time. If you dont answer a question, or if you want to end any of the surveys at any time, there will be no penalty to you. If you choose to complete the survey you will be asked at the end of the survey if you consent to be contacted in the future. If you do provide consent to be contacted in the future you may be randomly selected for an interview. You do not have to consent to the interview to complete this survey. You can withdraw your consent at any time. If you do consent, an interview will be conducted at your convenience in person, online, or by telephone. The interview will last approximately 45 minutes. The questions will be about your educational background and experiences. I will audio record the interview with your consent. These voice recordings will be transcribed and assigned a random identifier not associated with your name or any other identifying information. Once the recordings are transcribed they will be immediately destroyed.

Risks and Discomforts Surveys: All measure will be taken to ensure your answers to the surveys will remain confidential; however, Emory cannot guarantee confidentiality if this survey is completed on a publically accessible computer such as a library computer. Your participation is completely voluntary and you can refuse to answer a question at any time. Your personal information: We will ask for permission to contact you after you complete the survey. You do not have to provide consent to be contacted or any contact information to complete this survey. However, we will ask for a contact method if you consent to follow-up. This information will in no way be linked to your Facebook or LinkedIN page.

BENEFITS
Information from this study may be used to improve research on non-traditional college students. This study is not designed to benefit you directly. Confidentiality Certain offices and people other than the researchers may look at study records. Government agencies and Emory employees overseeing proper study conduct may look at your study records. These offices include the Emory Institutional Review Board and the Emory Office of Research Compliance. Emory will keep any research records we create private to the extent we are required to do so

by law. A study number rather than your name will be used on study records whenever possible. Your name and other facts that might point to you will not appear when we present this study or publish its results.

Costs to you It will not cost you anything to be in this study other than your time. Compensation There will be no compensation for this study. Alternatives to being in the study The other choice you can make is to refuse to be in the studysay No. You will not be penalized in any way, and you will not lose any rights, services or benefits if you refuse.

Withdrawal from the Study You have the right to leave the study at any time without penalty. This decision will not affect in any way your current or future care/services or any other benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. The investigators have the right to stop your participation in this study without your consent if: They believe it is in your best interest; You were to object to any future changes that may be made in the study plan; or for any other reason.
