Press ReleasePatrick J BlanchetteMarch 2009
On November 20
th
of this past year, I made the biggest and best decision of my young life. I offered my name asa candidate for the Office of Mayor of city of Lawrence. A city that I was born and raised and a city that I callhome today.Over the past 9 years I have had the privilege and honor to represent the people of Lawrence on the CityCouncil. For the past 5 years I have sat as the leader of our historic City Council working to make our city great. It has been a huge responsibility and one that I certainly cherish. I will continue to work towards the end of myterm to focus on bringing our city to our time of greatness. For the past year I have had the honor of meeting at kitchen tables, coffee shops, backyards and conferencerooms from Tower Hill to Prospect Hill and from Mt. Vernon to the Arlington District discussing my vision, mydream and my hope for the city of Lawrence. From the start of our “campaign” I believe we made our case tothe people of this great city. It has been an exhilarating and humbling experience for this young man fromProspect Hill – one that I will truly never forget. With hundreds of supporters, family and friends we made our case about the future of our city.We made our case for the importance of strong leadership in the corner office with an open door government for all Lawrencians not just a select few.We made our case for the importance of strong fiscal stability within city government focusing on accountabilityand performance measurements. We made our case that we need to build learning communities within our school district to empower our studentsto become successful in their future. We made our case for the importance of having a quality of life improvement plan to address streets, sidewalks, graffiti, litter and noise complaints in all sectors of our community. We made our case that jobs in Lawrence ought be created and established for Lawrence people. We made our case for the importance of having a Mayor of Lawrence that can bring all people in our communitytogether for a common cause with a common purpose, a bridge builder.I believe that we made our case – now - is a time for greatness in Lawrence.Knowing that our case is being made and the realization that the cause must continue, I remain excited about thefuture of our city.It is with great pride and dignity that I announce today that I am ending my campaign for Mayor of the City of Lawrence. Due to personal family commitments and health considerations I must now step aside from thiscampaign. My heart and my soul have come to this decision with some inner struggle but with great acceptancetoday. At this time, this is the best decision for me, my family, my supporters and my fellow Lawrencians.
