THE CODEX ALIMENTARIUS COMMISSION
The
Codex Alimentarius Commission
is an intergovernmental body with over170 members, within the ramework o the Joint Food Standards Programmeestablished by the Food and Agriculture Organization o the United Nations(FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), with the purpose oprotecting the health o consumers and ensuring air practices in the oodtrade. The Commission also promotes coordination o all ood standardswork undertaken by international governmental and non governmentalorganizations.The
Codex Alimentarius
(Latin, meaning Food Law or Code) is the resulto the Commission’s work: a collection o internationally adopted ood stand-ards, guidelines, codes o practice and other recommendations.
