Step ONE; Roll the course calendar into tiny paper beads, lacquer them This is where I began

to think of the beads like people. They looked like a crowd waiting to go somewhere. I knew that I was not just going to make a simple decorative item.

Step TWO; Lay out the beads.

The Logos and the big showy beads wanted to dominate, but in the end the logo beads were not even used. What was more important were the other more ordinary

Step THREE; Wire them up! A centre bead connecting them all, a common purpose At this point they started to look too much like gures and it was too imsy to be a basket or vessel of any sort. I was going to give up!

Step Four; Raise the sides! Tiny silver beads wired together reminded me to stars or souls. It was if the vessel needed to see the diamond like qualities in each person.

Step Five; Balance Male/ Female images. As the process went along, I saw very clear male/female symbols.

Step Five; Bring in the music!! I added some musical score sheets for contrast knowing how much Rockway loves its music.

Step Six; Never give up!!! It was not done in one session, but over time. It became a multi-layered vessel of community. Showing in concrete form, the perfect place that each person has within the communities structure. The aquamarine rock means beauty, honesty and loyalty. The freshwater pearl showing how conict and irritation can become something wonderful. And the diamond-like faceted beads show how there are so many different perspectives.
