Technique

Techniques that I used for this project was using the applicationAdobe Dream weaver and I mostly just looked at tutorials and usedsome past knowledge on making websites to make a layout. Thetutorial taught me some techniques like "div tag" to make boxes in thedesign so that I could put content like texts or pictures in the box, kindof a like a banner like what I already have. First, there is a div tagbutton on top of the toolbar in dreamweaver and once you click on thediv tag button, your mouse pointer turns into a cross. After you click onit, you can draw your box to be as big as you want it to be, and if youwere to mess up on the size, you can change the size of it by selectingthe div tag box and then just change the dimensions. I also learnedhow to put on pictures and text using only codes in the HTML formatand that made the layout catchier when someone looks at it. Bymaking a banner, it was easier to compress the information that I hadinto a smaller area.For my second page of the website, I decided that I wanted toinclude an art gallery. I searched online and asked friends what was agood program to install and one friend told me to use simpleviewer. Atfirst, simpleviewer looked really easy because on the site, it said tointall and you can use it. Well, not because after installingsimpleviewer, you had to make a thumb of the picture that was 65x65pixels, put it in the correct folder, put the original picture in a folder,and then change the coding to include where the image was located onmy computer. But after getting used to it, it wasn’t that hard, it was just really tedious.For the content that I chose to include for my project, each of thepictures were unique and were pictures that I have never seen before. Ididn’t just go online and search for pictures that I could place in my artgallery, I searched for artists’ artwork instead because I knew lookingfor art this way was better because the art that I can find straight fromartists would be better. The first thing that I did was make a page with just a square on itthinking that was I was going to make a blog page. But I later thoughtthat that would be really boring because I viewer wouldn’t just want toread, they would want to see more visuals. So I later expanded on thepage by adding a banner and 2 columns, 1 column being the maininformation about the site, and the other column being links to myother page and external pages.For my website, the on going theme that was used was that “artis for everyone”. Point of View

Art is something that people all around the world can experience.Art is not something that is produced and not showcased. My artproject shows people that art is not only for artists to view, its mostlytowards everyday people that might not even like art by a variety of blog posts and pictures. From creating my site, I want people to noticethat art is not only for the people who create it and because of this,people will realize that they can relate to art even if they don't like art.Basically, Everyone can view Art no matter where they are from.

Context and Connections

I think that this picture is not art because to me, this doesn'tsymbolize anything, it doesn't make me think there is a theme ormessage behind this picture, and it doesnt evoke an emotion. Thepicture just has 3 pillars in an area and maybe if they were bent orcarved to make an objet that had more meaning, I would probably sayit is art. But because it is just 3 pillars and it doesn't show me anytheme or message behind it like the previous post I had where I couldsay so many things about what the meaning of that picture is, this isnot art.Art must evoke an emotion, must have an uplifting theme ormessage, must be a form of communication between the artist and theviewer, and must be unique. If an art piece doesn't have thesedifferent types of criteria, it is not art.For the questions above, I think that most of the questions thatwere voted a lot on were really what I thought art must be in order fora viewer to see that the art is art. One question that I really thoughtshouldn't have had any votes for was the "Must be done by arecognized artist" because to me, a piece of art shouldn't bedetermined by if the person creating the art is known or not becauseanyone can create art. The art doesn't have to be really nice or havepeople like it, I think that as long as it has a meaning behind it andpeople can understand what the art is supposed to show people, thenit shouldn't have to be done by recognized artists. I think that people shouldn't see art as what they want it tobe, but how the artist of the art wants people to see out of it.When I was making my own website, I thought about being theviewer visiting my site and I didn’t think that the viewer would wantme to choose for them for what they wanted art to be like. So Ispecifically made the site so that almost all viewers would enjoy it,kind of having a variety of the site. I think that the picture describedabove wasn’t art because it didn’t really have a meaning. The artgallery that I put up contains different types of art so that the viewercan experience different types of art, not just one kind that the viewermight not like.Based on my exploration of Art, I think that Art needscharacteristics like having appeal, being interesting, and havemeaning. To me, if an art piece were to have these 3 characteristics, itwould characterize the art piece as good art. For my art gallery, Ipicked art pieces from the internet that were not only just found ongoogle, I searched for artists instead because those were the art workthat really compelled me and were unique. Artists usually createartwork when they have an inspiration and because of the inspiration,they have a meaning behind what they are creating.

Reflection

When I first thought about this project, I thought that it wasgoing to be really neat if I could design my own website. I never madea website before and I thought that I could really benefit from learningbecause maybe in the future, if I were to ever start a business, I couldmake my own website instead of having to pay people hundreds of dollars just to make a simple website. But as I started to continuethinking about the website, I didn’t know what do include anymorebecause I didn’t really know what else I could include. As I startedlooking at other people’s websites, I got an idea that I could have anart gallery to exhibit work through simpleviewer. When I saw that Icould do this, I thought it was really nice and people who come to mysite could look at art and there would be varieties of art there alreadywithout having to click on external links. To put the pictures into the simpleviewer application on mywebpage, it involved using photoshop and dreamweaver. First, I had toselect the rectangular marquee, change the style of the selection to afixed size so that I could have a certain part of the picture cut out,make the size of the selection 65x65px, and then copy and paste thepicture onto another file. Using simpleviewer was really tediousbecause it takes a lot of work to just get the picture uploaded to theweb.
