HIDDEN SAINTS OF INDIA – Part I -Periyavar Rarnamoorthyji INTRODUCTIONI am K. V. Viswanathan aged 82 years and I have worked in variousparts of India. My last posting was at Hosur, Tamil Nadu, INDIA asDeputyCollector.Now I am settled at ChennaiI do have lot of anecdotes regarding the experiences I had withSaints of India, which many may wonder. For the benefit of allmankind, I am arranging for publishing the same on net, through oneof my neighbour.This would be updated on weekly basis without fail (if not earlier)More to follow!!!!

In case of great souls not only the physical presence that wouldvibrate the peaceful, serene atmosphere, but the articles used bythem do have a great bearing.We are familiar with the episodes of Rama Padhuka, which helpedSri Bharata to rule the country in the absence of Sri Rama. So alsothere are many episodes in our epics as well as in our Puranas toprove this.In respect of Sri Periyavar, the seat as well as the Peedam where heplaces his feet are also powerful. They are very many episodesconnected with them. In Madurai where our Sri Periyavar gavediscourse for 3 days the Peedam played most unbelievable actsthose cannot be explained by word or writings. But all were realexperiences. Of this I shall deal as and when occasion arises.

Meeting with Periyavar I had mentioned in short my meeting with Sri Periyavar in AanmeegaNilayam in Krishnagiri. It was really strange indeed. I got this throughmy Poorwa Punya alone. For, this was my 1st step in the spiritual lifewith our Sri Periyavar. I could not catch the real meaning of his wordsOur Relationship is aged long i.e. it dates back to very many births.As our Sri Periyavar would say IT IS NOT BLOOD RELATION, BUTIT IS AATHMA RELATION WHICH KNOWS NO TIME ANDDISTANCE – BEYOND ALL HUMAN CALCULATION ANDUNDERSTANDING.Episode 2 : Alert ConditionNormally I go to bed by 8.30 PM after my visit to Aanmeega Nilayamin Krishnagiri. I used to spend till 10 PM there, at times even late. ButI never felt sleepy or tired, all by the gfrace of the Master. So also,when I was with Sri Muniyandi Swamigal our meeting time was from10 PM to 5 AM. So the presence of Divine persons would drive awayall our sluggish lethargic mental as well as physical conditions.Episode 3 – Play of thoughtsAt the time of my joining the Nilayam virtually a cold war was wagingbetween Sri Periyavar and another very powerful evil spirit. The soulwas aged nearly 800 hundred years doing tapas in the icy heights of Himalayas. But due to aversion towards the human species for somereason or other he acquired powers by sapping the knowledge aswell as the life of young and intelligent people. And thereby, heprolonged his life all these years and acquired knowledge.It so happened that the boy known to Sri Periyavar was seized by theinfluence of the monster like being through a medium. So the affectedboy was brought to Sri Periyavar. Here Sri Periyavar has describedthe unbelievable velocity of the thought wave of that man whichsurpassed the light year’s speed. At the end, the man who was atHimalayas, came to the place of Aanmeega Nilayam before SriPeriyavar in the form of spirit and surrendered wishing to get only
 
PEACE. This was assured to that spirit and thus mankind was savedfrom further onslaught by this evil-minded person. I was theeyewitness to that episode.Episode 4 – Implicite ObedienceDuring my visit to Nilayam one day, I went there as usual with milkparcel. On reaching this place Sri Periyavarr said, "You can go". Thismade me embarrassing. A. man, who used to sit there from 5PM tsl0PM if asked to leave the place immediately, naturally it would makehim upset. I thought that I did some wrong or wounded the feelings of one who was my benefactor. When I expressed my desire to stayback "IT IS LEFT TO YOU". I stayed there still 10 PM and returned totown by walk. From there I took the bus to the road junction where Ihad left my cycle to proceed to training center at dam site. It was anAmmavasai day or new moon day without any light. Before reachingmy place I had to go over a culvert. There was no light in my cyclealso. So I was going in a slow speed. I just reached the culvert. ThereI was stopped by a man who held the handle bar of my cycle. All of the sudden he aimed big log of wood, and was about to hit my head.Then the drunken man had an inclination to have a puff from thebeedi in his mouth. He just inhaled. On the glow of the light he sawmy face and said, "You are not that man, you can go".I was wondering why I was stopped and allowed to go! In the pitchdarkness on an Ammavasai Day for a drunkard who was armed witha dangerous weapon like a big stick, which could give a death stroketo anybody, who gave the idea to have a puff? How he couldrecognise me as a person other than be was expecting to give ablow? Really it was only Sri Periyavar who saved me from thisdeathblow. So Guru is not confined to physical form, he iseverywhere and anywhere.Episode 5 – Disappearnce of Wound:I have already made mention of the great powers of the “PEEDA’.. Anepisode happened to our Sri Periyavar. One day after his regular shave the blade was put in the glass of water. He totally forgot aboutthat.
