A How-To Guide for Santa CruzRestaurants to Switch to Tap Water

Now is the Time for Santa Cruz Restaurantsto Join Consumers as We Take Back the Tap
Dear Restaurateur,In the interest of protecting our water resources, the city of Santa Cruz, Food & Water Watch and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom need your help and that of all Santa Cruz res-taurants and chefs. You can join with consumers as we all kick the bottled water habit and take back the tap.U.S. restaurants and consumers are wasting billions dollars a year on billions of gallons of bottled wa-ter, at least in part because they think it is healthier or safer than its counterpart from the tap. It is not.Following the lead of the city of San Francisco, the city of Santa Cruz and the Women’s InternationalLeague for Peace and Freedom have partnered with Food & Water Watch on the Take Back the Tapcampaign, which urges restaurants to hold the bottled water and instead serve only tap water. Thiscampaign follows a Santa Cruz city resolution affirming the importance of municipal water and en-couraging residents to discontinue everyday use of bottled water. The City Council also passed the U.S.Mayor’s resolution banning the use of public funds to buy single-serving plastic-bottled water. This guide will help you smoothly transition your restaurant into serving healthful, great-tasting tap water. Thank you for your interest, and we hope that you will join us in our efforts to provide clean, afford-able water for all. Sincerely,  Wenonah HauterExecutive DirectorFood & Water Watch
