March 10, 2009A Message from Mayor Sheila Dixon:On behalf of the citizens and city of Baltimore, it is my honor to welcome you to the BaltimoreCity Police Department’s Annual Medals Day Ceremony. As a public servant, I am inspired byyour selfless dedication and commitment to positive change in our communities.Today we take the time to celebrate the menand women who have committed their lives to protecting the people of Baltimore City from harm. Those who have demonstrated exceptionalskill and dedication are being singled out for an even greater honor. I hope that those honored today will continue to be examples of professional excellence for many years to come.This achievement deserves more than just a medal or even a round of applause – but sinceregratitude from a city that will no longer tolerateto live in communities of fear and intimidation.I would also like to extend my gratitude to your family and loved ones who also make sacrificeson your behalf as you make this city safer.Your commitment to serving the people of Baltimore goes a long way to ensuring a stronger Baltimore in the years to come. As Commissioner, it is my honor to recognize theoutstanding officers receiving medals today. The job of a  police officer is very difficult and often very dangerous,but these fine men and women have all demonstrated thecourage, dedication and skill that set this department apart. I thank them for their service, and I am proud to have them as Baltimore Police Officers.
