PHOTOS OF CUSTOMERS' MACHINES

We have been fortunate to receive numerous photos from our customers showing their Torchmate machines. The following pages show examples of bolt-together Torchmate 3 and 4' x 4' Small Shop Machines, as well as completed Torchmate 1, 2, and 3 kits. The second part of this file depicts some examples of work performed by customers on their Torchmate Machines. In exchange for sharing their photos with us, we feel an obligation to protect their privacy. We have a policy of identifying only those customers who have volunteered to accept telephone calls from people who are considering a Torchmate purchase.

Two 5' x 10' bolt-together Torchmate 3 machines in a factory. Note the heavy plastic curtains and exhaust system to carry away the plasma dust produced by the plasma arc process.

A 4' x 8' Torchmate 3 purchased in kit form by John Hunt of Thatcher, AZ. John originally purchased a 4' x 4' machine made by another manufacturer, which can be seen to the left of the larger Torchmate.

An overwhelming advantage of Torchmate is the great variety of sizes in which we can supply it. Bill Kunz Sr., president of Applied Robotics, Inc., keeps this pint-sized 18" x 24" capacity Torchmate 2 in a corner of his garage. When he wants to use it, he simply rolls it outside and locks the casters in place. A wash tub makes a dandy container to catch the debris.

At the opposite end of the scale is this 8' x 20' Torchmate 2 in New Zealand. A pillow block was installed in the center of the gantry to support the center of the drive shaft. The plumbing for the customer-fabricated water table can be seen clearly. As large as this machine is, a ship building facility in Singapore has an 8' x 40' Torchmate 3.

The photo on this and the following two pages show how two customers have handled the exhausting of plasma dust. This Torchmate 1, shown nearing completion in this picture, uses an owner-fabricated downdraft table, with an exhaust fan that will be connected to the fitting at the end of the table via ductwork. A tray that catches the cutting debris pulls out of the bottom of the opposite end. We have no reports as to the effectiveness of his approach, but it appears as though it should do the job.

This Torchmate 1 owner fashioned a tent made from plastic tarps, with an exhaust duct at the top. The following page shows the side panels closed.

While this is not the most attractive installation we have seen, we are told that it handles the exhausting chore absolutely.

A Torchmate 3, purchased in kit form, is seen here cutting 4" thick steel plate with oxy-fuel in Minnesota. The pointed material supports, while generally less desirable than slats, were needed to keep the large torch tip from cutting all the way through the supports.

A typical completed Torchmate 3 kit. Here, 11 gauge mild steel is being cut.

A typical 4' x 8' Torchmate 2 installation. This owner appears to be using a water-table, with no exhausting. Many customers position their plasma cutter higher than the table surface to keep it away from plasma dust. We have not experienced any plasma cutter malfunctions specifically attributable to plasma dust.

Here, a Torchmate 1 owner has fabricated a roll-out material support table. We have a number of customers who have taken this approach to simplify the loading of plate with a forklift. Our Torchmate 3 was designed with one side lower than the other to eliminate the need for this sort of arrangement.

Torchmate customers are engaged in an extremely broad variety of manufacturing activities. These range from cutting out industrial brackets, to creating artistic shapes from metal, to automated sandblasting, to shipbuilding and cabinet making. Here we show you some examples of customers' projects that were completed solely or partially though the use of a Torchmate CNC system.
