There are over 20 proven methods or techniques or a product or service tobe marketed online. Most o them didn’t exist in a very sophisticated orm12 months ago, and all o them have subsets that make the eld o onlinemarketing a vast and, in the South Arican context, a widely unexplored one.How many o the 20 methods do you use? In act, how many o the 20 canyou even name? The good news is, that just by reading this monthly Journal, you are alreadyahead o the rest o marketers. You ound it online, or someone passed itonto you. You have enough curiosity in the subject o online marketing toread what this Journal has to say. You obviously have some sort o incentiveto learn more about online marketing, and in the coming pages I’ll prove toyou that you are on the right path. The world o online marketing is complex and ever changing. New methods, best practices, applications, tools, trends and cost models crop up every day.Simply to keep up could be a ull time job. Conveying your research to yourteam and selling them on the dierent concepts requires time and eortyou might not have. Making sense o all your options and choosing theright strategy with condence can be dicult and time-intensive. This Journal is here to help. It condenses all that you need to know in theworld o online marketing to a manageable 32 pages, (approx) sent to youas a .pd on a regular basis. You can copy it, and pass it along to your entireteam. You will then have the condence that you are all on the same pagewhen it comes to setting strategy. (Please read the license terms careully).I you are a seasoned new media veteran, the inormation in these pagesmight not be news-worthy to you. But in your line o work, you will de-nitely meet people who would be well served to bring themselves up tospeed as ar as new media is concerned. This Journal is or them, and I hopeyou pass it along.

This issue is an introduction to social media, and a brie one at that. Onecould write books on any o the tools covered here, and I have purposeullytried to not do that. The most common lament I hear rom people who aretrying to understand this industry is that they nd it dicult to get com-prehensive help, because they don’t even know what questions to ask. Thisissue aims to address that problem. There is also a more in-depth look at social networks. It should give a be-ginner a clear guideline and idea o the potential that these tools bringto online communication. For a ar more comprehensive and even morein-depth look, there is a premium guide available on the www.twojumpsa-head.com website. And in the true spirit o the game, the site has a mini social network o itsown. It’s early days, but please do sign up and join in the conversation. Onceagain, the underlying aim is to provide help and encouragement to thosewho are beginning to get an interest in new media.I am a web strategist, working out o South Arica. The world o new/socialmedia is slowly opening up here, and there are great predictions or a sud-den spurt this year. I look orward to it, and I hope this Journal will play itspart in anning that growth.O course, social media knows no territorial boundaries, and the inormationcontained here will apply, at least in principle, to any region in the world. For my daily musings on social media, please visit my blog, www.TwoJump-sAhead.com There you will also nd links to other content I have written, including in-depth studies and guides.I look orward to receiving your comments re this Journal.
