Rules and Good Practices


Time availability, promptness, initiative, patience, flexibility and common sense are a few of the basic requirements of a volunteer. Commitment with the rules of the event and the ability to relate to others are essential for the volunteers success. Changing, personalizing or adding items to the uniform, such as caps and pins, is not allowed. The volunteer must always use his/her nametag and is forbidden from using the phone during the events activities Accessing computers and restricted areas without authorization, letting people in and selling parts of the uniform is not allowed. Drinking alcoholic beverage or smoking is not allowed. Receiving visitors, asking for autographs, taking photos or filming is forbidden. A few of the items forbidden to the volunteer during the work shift and in any area of the event are: video and photo cameras, backpacks, bicycles and weapons of any kind. Be polite and always speak slowly, in a clear and objective manner, without using slang. When helping someone, let the person speak, make sure that you understood what they are saying and that they understand what you are saying. Always speak looking into the persons eyes, greet them and smile. Avoid speaking loudly, using vulgar terms and talking too much. If you cannot provide the information requested, dont invent something to say. Avoid sudden gestures and those that can be construed as offensive. Never turn your back when someone is speaking to you and never talk to the public with your arms crossed.
