Jennifer Errande, L.A. Marathon Fundraiser Epilepsy Foundation of Greater L.A.

5777 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045 Dear Friends and Family, Thank you for all of your generous past donations to End Epilepsy. Im happy to say that I completed the L.A. Marathon on March 17, 2013 in just over 6 hours! At about the 13 mile mark, near West Hollywood, I caught a glimpse of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was reminded of undergoing a Video EEG at Cedars-Sinai in 2005 and watching a playback of myself having a seizure with the synchronously recorded EEG signals by the video clip on a computer screen. It gave me a sense of joy and relief to know that doctors were able to identify the source of my seizures. On June 22, 2005 I underwent surgery at Cedars-Sinai and have had no seizures since. However, not all who suffer from epilepsy have been so fortunate. Almost 3 million people in the U.S. and about 50 million, worldwide, have epilepsy. In addition, anyone can get epilepsy at any age and at any time; and one in three adults knows someone with epilepsy. It is far more common than most people think. On the drive home from the finish line in Santa Monica, I passed Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital in Marina del Rey and was reminded of the period in 2003 when I sufferred status epilepticus, which is one continuous, unremitting seizure lasting longer than 5 minutes, during which I would come out of the seizure only long enough to see doctors and nurses scrambling to determine what medicines I was taking and other details of my condition, but not long enough, or enough a state which allowed me, to tell them. Thankfully, drastic improvements have since been made in medical information technology, but there are many changes in other areas which still need to take place. An estimated 55,000 people die every year from epilepsy. (DATEVALUE("3/17/2013")-DATEVALUE("6/22/2005"))*55000/365= 425,685 which is about the number of people have died from epilepsy from the day of my surgery until the day I completed the L.A. Marathon. The resources provided by the Epilepsy Foudnation of Greater Los Angeles must continue to be made available to those who suffer from Epilepsy. Thank you again!
