RMOTC Geodatabase

Prepared by William Harbert, University of Pittsburgh Prepared for Dr. Ron Masters, Chairman, SEG IQ Earth Committee

Summary
Data has already been organized and integrated into an SMT geodatabase (10.3 Gbytes). Prestack NMO corrected gathers would be useful for scientific training and are not available in the base dataset released from RMOTC (US DOE). Acquisition of these data would be useful and might be available from Dawson 3D (?). RMOTC Data could be constructed into a OpendTect 4.2.0 geodatabase by students at the University of Pittsburgh for IQ Earth.

Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing

The field test site is a 10,000-acre operating oil field offering a full complement of associated facilities and equipment on site. There are approximately 1,300 historical well bores and 600 producing wells in nine producing reservoirs ranging in depth from 300 ft. to 5,500 ft. Cased and open-hole wells are available for testing at depths of 300 ft. to 6,000 ft. Casing diameters range from 4.5 in. to 20 in. Well records, core samples, and production data are commonly available for analysis prior to selecting the best candidate well for a field test. Average production is 375 barrels of oil per day and 40,000 barrels of water per day. Production is primarily light, sweet (low sulfur) crude. Production from the Tensleep Formation is sour crude. Produced gas is processed at the on-site gas plant and natural gas liquids are separated out and sold. The remaining methane fraction is re-injected into the Second Wall Creek Member of the Frontier Formation.

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) from the Tensleep formation is occurring in the central region of Section 10. This is the region we model scenarios related to CO2 injection, well bore breech, and vertical fault migration.
